So I recently picked up the new extra styles package... literally just a few days ago.

I haven't had time to properly explore this but wanted to do something on this rainy day. So here's what I came up with in a few hours to test this baby out.... take it for a spin around the block.

Country Jam

Enjoy... I found another country style that really sounds good but the idea I had would have taken a few days to put it together properly... so... stay tuned.... In the mean time.... enjoy this jam session from this morning.

One take.... straight through.... warts and all.

Warts... what warts?!? This is a super satisfying little jam to start the morning off. Awesome guitar tone there -- what kind of rig were you running?

The warts....They're there. But, not very obvious so I let it rock on. Little things like string twanks... things easier heard in track solo and I would clean them up in another session.... but this works so ROCK & ROLL!!

The rig: Fender Modern Tele into a Joyo Ultimate Drive pedal.... it's a very clean and subtle OD pedal. From there.... into a Mesa Studio 22 Boogie, and mic'd with a Rode NT2A. A touch of low cut EQ and a subtle slapback echo to give it the sound of a retro room. Recorded into Sonar and mixed there too.

It was either country or jazz.... and country won the coin toss.

Well as everyone knows warts = rock'n'roll so, yep, that makes sense! That rig sounds gorgeous... my "white whale" amp is a Boogie MkII C+ :-)

I love Mesa. I picked this little jewel up 30 some years ago for slightly over $500, which was a large sum at the time, and have turned down offers from others to buy it from me for twice what I paid. I love those "little" 20watt amps.... you can crank them and not blow out the windows or ears.

Hang on to it, Herb! That's impressive you've managed to hang on to it for so long with those profit margins looming... I agree about 20W amps, incidentally. I used to play around with an old little Marshall head and that thing just sounded amazing. I was never gonna get a chance to open up a Marshall halfstack in a residential neighbourhood so that was the next best thing, and recording-wise it was just as good.

The thing about those small amps is that you can crank them up into the range where the tubes are starting to clip and not have the huge volume issue. And, with the Mesa Studio 22, there's a line out with a volume control on the back side. You simply plug in and parallel the channels on a nice clean power amp, run that to a pair of 4x12 cabinets of your choice and you can run with the big dogs if you really want that massive guitar sound with a "touch" more volume. I ran that rig in the last band I was in. Had the Mesa powering an extension speaker near my floor monitor, and a Carvin DCA-800 power amp running a pair of Lab-series cabinets. It moved lots of air, which gave it a full quality sound, and I controlled the stage volume of the 4x12's from the DCA's volume controls. I had one cab on my side and one on the other side so the other guitar player could dial in the amount of my guitar he wanted to hear. It freed me from feeling the need to "power up" so he could hear me. All I did was dial in my tone and working volume level for me.

That was one nice little rig and it sounded sweet. I sold the cabinets after I left that band but kept the Carvin and the Mesa.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
