I knew that wrote this song awhile ago but I was surprised to find that I wrote this on 10/31/2007. Eleven years ago!

I didn't think I could do it with BIAB but the acoustic guitar 2403 Funkyfolk made it possible.

When Poppa Comes Home (10/31/2007)

Mama, what you gonna do when Papa
what you gonna do when Papa
what you gonna do
when Papa comes home and he’s looking for you

Papa he don’t like his supper cold
Papa you know he like his back door closed
Papa he don’t like his bed warm oooo, Mama
Mama what you gonna do? Me and my little brother gonna tattle on you

Mama, where you gonna run now Mama
Where you gonna run pretty Mama
Where you gonna run Mama You can’t hide Papa gonna find you

Papa he gonna hunt your pale [*****] down
Papa he gonna look all over town
Papa you know what that bad man will do Mama,
Mama what you gonna do
Me and little brother gonna tattled on you

Mama tell you what I’ll do pretty Mama,
Tell you what I’ll do now Mama, tell you what I’ll do
When Papa comes home I’ll cover for you

Papa he won’t know a damn thing’s wrong
Papa he’ll be singing a happy song
Papa he gonna smile and kiss you too
Mama that’s what I’ll do

Me and little brother well… got secrets too!

OUTSTANDING!!! Missed seeing you around here lately Lawrence! Love hearing that soulful voice......man you can belt it out! Great funky groove you've got going here. Sax sounds like it was played custom. Enjoyed this immensely!!! Welcome back. Greg

Excellent funky groove! Great selection of instruments and mix, especially that growling bass. Great vocals and bit scary lyrics suit the song well.

Lawrence,

This is quite some coincidence! Yesterday we said to each other: "We haven't heard any new songs from Lawrence lately..."
And there you are.
Quite an exciting song Lawrence! (It's new to us)

And we completely agree with Greg!

Greg, thanks for listening and for the kind words. I've found that can only go so long and then I have to take a break. But it's good to post again. I'm really liking Studio One.

At first I didn't like the Sax and thought that I would eventually replace it. At the very end of the mixing process it worked out.

Janne, thank you. It was fun to record. That bass sound is something I've been working on. I mixed in a guitar distortion plugin and a short slap-back delay and that was interesting.

Rob and Anne-Marie, It's good to hear from you. A nice coincidence as yesterday was the day I recorded the vocals and uploaded the song. You must have sent me a signal or something.

Although I wrote the song in 2007, I have never recorded it before. So it would be new in that since.

I do hope that there's typo in ""Me and little brother we got secretes too".
Well arranged though the bass seems a little too growly all the way through - sounds more like a clavinet in parts.
Are you going to sort out an ending?
Cool stuff.

Lawrence,

It's really great to see you in the forum again.

This performance of yours is truly the stuff of inspiration. It rings with sincerity, commitment, raw honesty and competence. From start to end, the track sizzles! As with all your songs, once I started listening, there was no turning back! Love that note that you use for "close". Super writing and arranging and mega-super singing!

All the best,
Noel

Holy Crap! Soul, Alt Rock and Funk gettin' down funky! This just a way too cool number, no matter how you slice and dice it. One of the most fun songs I've head on the forum in ages. This is soooooooo cool it's covered in frost.

Absolutely love it! So much fun!!!

Great groove! Fun lyrics and great vocal also.

Nice arrangement and mix too too, lots of interest in the way you bring in the instruments and use the stereo spectrum, sounds fabulous through the 'phones.

Enjoyed the listen!

Great funky tune. Enjoyed the use of all the instruments. Loved the guita rolling along in the right channel and especially liked the sax solo. The only thing I didn’t particularly care for was the abrupt ending. I wanted more. Great job.

Oh yeah!

This is what I'm talking about. Love this. Reminds me some of Stevie Wonder and some of Dr. John, but still totally Gruverider.

Great to have you back.

Outstanding vocals.
