Hello Everyone!

Here is a song that I wrote for my Dad over 54 years ago, when I was a 13 year old boy. It was done then in a Hank Williams style of country, but for my recording of it, I chose to use the incredible Western Swing multi-style. I just love that!

The song was recorded using all of the instrument variations in this multi-style, along with a liberal use of the Oohs and Aahs available.

I provided the lead vocals and some acoustic guitar, plus the music and lyrics, of course.

It was recorded on my computer using the BIAB dragdrop to Reaper. WAVES Tune was used on my vocals (it helped, but did not make me sound 40 years younger! lol). I also used WAVES Abbey Road Chambers Reverb, and Abbey Road Mastering.

Since this song was written so long ago, and by a young teenager, please be aware that the lyrics may be a bit simplistic and immature. In other words, not PC, by todays standards. But with that disclaimer out of the way, here's the link for any that would like to give it a listen.

Thanks!

Good one Jim,
A pretty polished package.
The multistyle arrangement is a great way to avoid making the narrative maudlin or corny.
There are a few artifacts on your vocal that the processing has accentuated - a click here, some essing there which I reckon you ought to tidy up when you get the time because the song is worth it.

Cheers

James,

A great tribute - very cool that you wrote this so long ago and just now recorded it.

Much enjoyed.

Thank you all for the kind words. I appreciate it.

rayc, I had thought I got all of those little clicks and breaths out of there. But to be honest, even with some really good monitors, there are things I just can't hear very well or at all. One of the fun things about old age. smile

Thanks again, everyone!

Jim

This is quite superb. And, considering you wrote it at 13, this is - in that case - nothing short of genius. PC or not, this is genuinely excellent, and an easy listen on the ear to boot. So many people these days try to over-complicate things! You thankfully don't - this song "does exactly what it says on the tin", so to speak and succeeds! What a great tribute to your father.

Jim,

A nice tribute tune. A very pleasant vocal.

(it is impressive that you still remember a song written when you were 13!)

Well done James, this is excellent! Fantastic selection of instruments here and a solid key signature choice too. The guitar sounds very crisp. Looking forward to hear more!

Wow. I am humbled and grateful for all of the nice things all of you have said about this song.

I never imagined... when I played it for my Dad on Father's Day in a little one-room country church, that I would someday record this song. I'd like to think that he'd be pleased.

Thanks to you all for helping make that possible!

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
