Subtitled (Extranthropaedia-v-3)

For Unkie

This started life as an experiment with new root notes for a common chord progression. In the main body of the thing, I inserted new roots with BIAB slash chord feature. These were a mix of "in-chord" and "out of chord" roots proving it is the bass player who determines what chord is heard. It really took off in my imagination and I twiddled with it with my producer hat on for a long time.

In the Middle section--a genuine change-up bridge with a new style and everything--I used chord notes in the bass to "create" inversions--if not in the individual instruments, then in the "band" as a whole. To end, I laid the flute over a section for which it was not created for a tiny bit more "modality" in the upper registers.

If all that sounds too weird for you, it's just a kid's instrumental. Maybe an other-worldly kid. There's a lot happening in two and one-half minutes,

I went for a somewhat more modern production technique which hearkens a bit back to my "loop" days, though there are no loops used.

The title hearkens back to those days as well, as this might be considered part of a suite.

And...the BAND.

The "heavier" and "lighter" versions of the main section are from the style itself with A/B parts.

Mixed in Reaper in many 15-20 minute sessions with various standard effects (Eq, Compression). The only real "trick" I used was to reverse the flute and lay it along-side the "forward" copy, edited for flow. It's subtle, but it's there.

Enjoy, if possible.

Very much a producer's product but BIAB allows that extravagance.
Well done - texture and invention around each corner.

Cheers

"There's a lot happening in two and one-half minutes" <- understatement of the year I think! wink

Loved all the various segments. So much going on, but it all works and flows together perfectly.

Really, really well done.

Indeed, a lot is happening in your nice song! But the excitement is a continuously present, starting with the bass and ending with that flute.
I was thinking how did you make a composition like this? You said it was a kids instrumental. That sounds simple, but it wasn't simple at all!
You used a lot of different instruments, including even a pedal steel. That was some work to make them work nicely together, though I haven't heard much of that pedal steel.

All the best,
Hans

Gotta agree with ray's comment.

Too much going on to parse (which is often Bud's comment). So...better to simply listen...

...and say

Amazing. Awesome. A great listen.

Tangmo,
Complex, but listens very well. A lot of interesting passages and elements. Flute was a treat. Good deal! Thank you for sharing.

I liked it for the most part. I think some riffs needed more room to bloom if that makes sense. But overall it was interesting and impressive!

Tangmo,

Your intro left this musical kid in the dust, but the listen cleared my head; its a playful
instrumental and almost everything works for me, the flute passages being my favourite.
But how do you reverse an RT?
I hope Unkie likes this!

Layered, textured, nuanced and remarkably complex
to sound so open and cohesive. I assume that considerable forethought and mix work were necessary.

Sometimes when you see the word "experiment" you think "uh oh" but that is assuredly not the case here.

We very much enjoyed listens and both feel this is a great candidate for sync licensing.

Well done!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
