This is a rework of a song I posted a couple of years ago. I have always regretted not getting some things right in this one. I feel I've gotten closer but I know I'll still want to improve it more as time goes on (still working and struggling with the lead vocal eq). It's a continuation of a Folk/Bluegrass/Americana kick I'm on at the present! It's dedicated to all those folks making a living out on the road when they would much rather be with their loved ones! It's a lonely life out there! Thanks for giving it another spin! The Soundcloud upload has replaced the old one. Therefore, some of your old comments are still up there...I didn't want to lose those! I appreciate my BIAB family!!!

The Road That Leads Me Home
Copyright 2018
Torrey Bliss

I’ve been on this road so long
I wonder why I’m here
Can you help me find the one that leads me home
I guess it’s true my life’s the sum
Of the choices that I’ve made
Yet the more I learn the less I seem to know

But there’s a fire that still burns deep inside
It’s keeping me and my dream still alive

Oh to get back those old memories
And live them once again
Can you help me find the road that leads me home
Still my heart is asking me
Does home await for me anymore

The day I left there were no goodbyes
Nor a moment to share a smile
Now I find myself out here alone
On the road there’s lots of time to think
And dwell on those mistakes I make
And wonder if I’m needed any more

But there’s a fire that still burns deep inside
It’s keeping me and my dream still alive

Oh to get back those old memories
And live them once again
Can you help me find the road that leads me home
I want to soar on wings of love and let them carry me
Along the narrow winding road that leads me home
Still my heart is asking me
Does home await for me anymore

Thank you SO much for sharing this - I loved it! Well written, well sung, stunning lyrics and great, melodic musical writing! I have no idea how you'd improve on it ... one of the songs I really enjoyed more on here. Thanks and keep sharing more with us if you can :-)

Torrey, this is your best to date IMHO. I would call this finished as I don't think you can do anything else to improve this. This is perfect as is.

Great lyrics sang with a strong vocal with excellent backing tracks and an outstanding mix makes this a winner.

This is outstanding.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Torrey,
it's a wonderful melody, arrangement and narrative.
The lead vocal has a few plosive, sibilant etc things that grab my ear but I know most folk don't hear that stuff or pay it any mind if they do.
BVox are ace.
Fabulous track.

Cheers

Hi Torrey
Firstly -- great song

"But there’s a fire that st........." If this is a bridge then having only one (instead of the current two)later in the song would serve it's purpose better of introducing spice and interest.
An instrumental will have much better impact _Before_ a chorus and not _After_.
Finally the title is "The Road That Leads me Home" yet the emphasised final line in the chorus is "Does home await for me anymore" which leads to assuming that the latter is the title. Why not simply swap these lines around and adjust for rhyming.
Phew ! Now you can call me a pompous twit.
Hope you don't mind my alternate arrangement ideas Torrey .It is a great song and I'm being selfish wanting to hear it "my" way.

Torrey,

A nice rework. The BAND really suits the lyric. It comes across as somewhere between The Band and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band... nice use of acoustic instruments.

The BGVs are terrific.

Enjoyed the listen.

Hi Torrey,

Seems I somehow managed to miss this the first time you posted, don't remember hearing it before anyway.

This is terrific! Great intro. Love the chorus and especially the pre chorus, very effective. And of course the vocals and BG vocals are top notch.

Lovely tone on the acoustic solo, and such smooth, melodic playing too.

Enjoyed!

We are old bluegrass folks (gigged for years) and current
Americana folks so this tune seems very "at home" for us.

You have a good vocal feel for this style and the harmony
is very well performed and mixed.

That's a cool mashup of RT's and the RD -- everybody plays
nicely together and sit nicely in the mix.

Your guitar work sounds excellent.

We had to seek out the accordion smile

Nice theme with the lyric and I'm sure there are many millions now
who would love to get back on the road!

Enjoyed it. Both the audio and vid.

First time hearing this and I really liked it. Very fresh sounding. When the vocal started, it threw me based on what I've heard from you in the past. But still quite good. Liked the mandolin's prominence. Another winner from you, I'd say.

Hi Torrey,

This is a very cool song. You performed very well with this one!
Beside your powerfull singing, I also enjoyed the mandolin.
And I agree with some others here that this is one of your strong songs. I disagree it is your best song. I have heard a lot more beautiful songs from you. This one can compete with them, but who cares. It is just a very good song!

This song is different from what I am used to hear from you (or maybe I need to listen to more of your songs). I really like it - the mandolin was a surprise - I have never dared to use it, but you make it fit perfectly in this track... I think I will have to reconsider my choices of instruments. smile

Very well done song!

Keep them coming!
Will
