TRUST MY WINGS

This is my attempt to write in the style of Burt Bacharach, with Hal David-type of lyrics. I tried to do a typical Bacharach thing--insert an extra 2 beats in a 4/4 song.

==================================

No one wants to love and wind up lonely;
No one wants to love if only feeling emptiness;
So why say 'yes?'

No one gives their heart to be neglected;
No one gives their love to be rejected or shut out;
What it's about?

I'd like to try--
To kiss once more the sky;
I'm willing to risk it!
Still wonder why
I can't TRUST MY WINGS to fly.

Anyone could be the one I search for;
Anyone at all I'm sure there's someone seeking, too;
It could be you.

Someone's got to want to love like I do
Someone just like you to give their heart unselfishly;
It might be me--

I long to try--
To kiss once more the sky;
I'm willing to risk,
To understand why
I can't TRUST MY WINGS to fly.

Look in my eyes and believe in my love..
And then with the confidence of love
I might TRUST MY WINGS to fly.
======================

I've lost most of the info about this, but I think it's mostly:

Tano,

Good write! Solid arrangement and lyrics. Clever stuff! Listens well, but I think vocals are a little loud.Thank you for sharing!

I think it certainly has the feel you were after.
A style appropriate lyric and good choice of instruments.
A nice clever write.

Tano,

Started reading the lyrics while enduring the awful SoundCloud commercials (yuck), but they really had my interest and was curious to hear the song. You’ve definitely captured that 60’s loves song feel—so mission accomplished there. It’s a well-constructed tune, with solid production elements throughout. Love how you slow down the tempo for a bit (or seem to) following the bridge. Haven’t quite figured out how to do that yet myself. Well done!

All my best to you,

Deej

Where's Dionne Warwick when you need her?
You do have the gentle bossa feel and the lilting melody of the consummate sophistipop writer..

Cheers

Hello Tano ...

Love the song! I'm Al David, not Hal David, but I give it my seal of approval! No one ever confuses me with Hal David ... he has a lot more numbers before the decimal point on his checking account. But I'm a big fan of his even though we're not related.

Your lyric and musical arrangement are reminiscent of the Bacharach - David style. I think you can say "Well done. Mission accomplished".

Bacharach & David, plus Jimmy Webb, were my favorite songwriters of the 60s and early 70s.

Best to you. Please be safe ...

Alan

Thanks Alan, I appreciate the feedback.

...and thanks David-- I was "off" the forum for over a year and half, and so I'm finishing up lots of projects that I worked on during my absence.

The lyrics are light and have that almost conversational quality I like in the genre... married to a very good structure : I think Ray nailed it with "sophistipop"!
A brave vocal on a tune that`s tailor made for one of the greats of the era.
Very well done.

Yep, you captured that 60's music style of Burt Bacharach and the Hal David style of lyrics.

Super work on this one.

Brilliant!!! Loved it. A wonderfully executed piece of pastiche :-) Great job!!!

Hope you take this as the compliment it's intended as, but I see this as a song that might well work on Sesame Street or something, with Kermit singing it. It's meant as a genuine compliment!!! :-)

Tano,

Sure, I can hear the Bacharach influence in this. Quite a good tune. Nicely arranged and performed.

Yes, in the style of Burt Bacharach. Really good tune, and ambitious instrumentation and arrangement... that change of tempo and feel at the end, really well done.

Being able to write anything that comes close to a Bacharach/David tune is a talent. And this truly delivers. An excellent write - melody AND lyric.

A perfect backing track. The vibes touches are icing on the cake. And the strings are done "just right". The muted trumpet - nice!! Nice drums accents, too. A lot of thought went into this. On my 4th listen. Very few things make me do that!!

A nice vocal. (I agree that the vocal is slightly louder than it needs to be)

Excellent.

It's all been said.

The Bacharach vibe is nailed and it summons up Dionne's interpretations of his songs.

Ray said a lot in one word. Sophistipop smile

Janice said you're in good company because one of our favs, Diana Krall, admires Bacharach!

Cool...mission accomplished.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
