One more cover of a (public domain) hymn - I'm not that pious, in everyday life at least, but this one is so, so beautiful, I just had to have a go at it ... I only hope I haven't butchered it too badly.

https://amazingradio.us/profile/jamesdelsono/tunes/a88805ec-a6c1-11eb-ac2b-86d69e9572f3

I made the arrangement with BIAB, then substituted the instruments in Mixcraft Pro Studio 9 - and dispensed with the drums altogether. Then I sung, haha. Thanks for listening and for all comments! :-)

WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!

***

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!

Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!

***

Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge--
take it to the Lord in prayer!

Do your friends forsake you?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.

James,

The arrangement works, though I think it could be just a bit faster...

The vocal is slightly "boom-y" (sounds like proximity effect), but again, nice to hear ya singing these...

Thanks floyd jane. I did actually apply an "anti proximity effect" plugin to the voice track, so it's frustrating to see that it hasn't worked ... maybe I need to do it twice - or just stay further away from the mic, etc.! I think you're onto something with the speed thing, too ... will listen again to it, to make sure.

Thanks for listening and for commenting!!!

Excellent version James. I kind of like the slower version. Super vocal. Well done

Pleasantly done! smile

Looking forward to hearing you sing at a volume louder than your speaking tone! Keep this up, and before you know it you'll be giving Dave Snyder a run for his money! wink

Seriously though, it's good to hear you singing!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Good job, James. Your style gives a certain emphasis, certain honor, to those timeless lyrics.
I wonder if this hymn might not have stirred a bit of controversy back in the 19th century.

Thanks everyone! Not looking to give anyone a run for anyone's money, David Cuny ... I'd surely and utterly lose, especially if up against someone like David Snyder! haha. but it's fun to be able to make an interpretation of these amazing hymns, and for that thanks goes, first and foremost, to PG Music and the BIAB staff - without them, it'd still all be in my head (for better or worse, lol).

Ed, one question: how do you mean that this hymn would have caused controversy? I personally don't see much controversial in it ... it's, to me, just a call to prayer - but, then again, I'm no good at religious history ... so, if you have a little time, I'd love to be enlightened on this. If not, no worries, of course - I ought to get into the habit of doing my own research anyway, haha. Thanks!

YES!! You sang it very well, James. Serious chills. You developed the song nicely. I might prefer an organ to the strings, but your impassioned vocal quickly overshadows that wish. This song has been done at many speeds. The jovial gospel feel seems most prevalent, but I like this very slow approach. It's almost dirge-like, but, then again, passion for the Lord is often strongest on the way to the grave. hehe. I'd also like to hear more of Ed's suggestion of 19th Century controversy. Keep me in the loop.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Haha - thank you Marty. Love the "passion for the Lord" line ... ain't that true. That, or when we want something ;-) But thanks for the really nice comments! :-)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
