Hi All,

I thought it would be fun from time to time to post some “lost tracks & outtakes”. These are projects that just never made it to a complete song, became something else, or were abandoned - most are 1 take and roughly mixed.

I think it also demonstrates the power of BIAB as a songwriting, demo & idea tool. Like many of you - I have a large musical scrap heap… LOL!

This is an unreleased piece from 2018 and is called Like A Girl.

I’m running away from this lonely day
You have the strength to paint the gray
I’m hiding on the flat side of the world
But you rise up and fight like a girl

I’m flying far from the sun today
You have my word that I will stay
I was telling my best friend Earl
She can punch hard and fight like a girl

I’m choosing my words as they say
You have the means to blow them away
I’m a paper tiger caught in a whirl
But you can stand and fight like a girl

BIAB Tracks:
2474: Bass, Acoustic, Held Ev 085
2914: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Folky16thsBrent Ev16 085

Thanks and would love to hear your “lost tracks”. smile

Bob, there is very little wrong with this one. It is a little redundant at the ending but other then that all is good IMHO.

Sometimes all you need is a guitar and a good vocal to make a great song and this song has both.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I remember a song you did with the same theme...maybe even the same tagline. Maybe this little sketch donated its organs for that more fleshed out one. Great sentiment, and a really fine stripped down and intimate song. Love song? Yeah, I think so.

Tangmo,

Thanks. Yes - this song eventually became a song called "Fight Like A Girl". This sketch provided some initial ideas.

Hi Bob,

I agree with Mario - this works very well just as it is.

Good to hear a simple acoustic performance for a change on this forum.

Thanks for sharing.

Best Regards
Nigel

Hello Bob,

It is nice to post 'half songs' on the forum. When I read it, I thought it is a good idea to do this.
Maybe some other BiaB musicians can finish the job or help bringing a song (back) to life.
And then I mused about all those songs and 'half songs'or ideas in my digital bookcase...

But lets keep it to your trial, because I have a question: Why did you choose this particular song to bring to our attention here? do you want to finish it or is it now also in on of your excisting songs? I don't remember hearing this piece in any of your other songs. only that 'girl'part ;-)

I liked the guitarplay in it, although a bit too much bass. But very nice playing! and I was expecting a chorus, but that didn't happen.
Make a chorus, tame the bassy sound and there you go, a new song! It is good enough for that with those nice lyrics!

Hi Bob,

This song kind of caught me off guard. I was expecting a rowdy honky-tonk sounding tune. But the way you've sung it and played it gave me a totally different impression of what the song was about. Very good vocal and musical arrangement. I enjoyed the listen!

Bob,

I really like this "demo." Do whatever you think you need to do to polish it to your standards. Excellent lyrics and I very much like the melody.

Hey Bob,

I like this! But I have heard this before. I definitely remember the lines "fight like a girl." Like 4 years ago maybe?

Are you SURE you didn't release this song already? Or another version??

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
