Hi everyone Here is the second song I made with Scott Collingwood. I promised you when I posted the first one (On a morning) I will soon come with the other one. Scott asked me 2 days ago if I have another song for him. So he likes what we're doing. And me too. I hope you as well! This song is called Just a song and based on a true story between my son and his girlfriend. In the lyrics I said he made the song, but of course it was me ;-) The link: https://soundcloud.com/user-296497130/just-a-song?si=30cc677ba46845808ea5559e5b65dc70There is one problem though; I can't get into BiaB on my computer, in fact I can't do a lot of things anymore on it since yesterday. It needs a thorough repair that will last some weeks, I heard. I have a spare computer and now downloading all the BiaB stuff from PG music, so I can make music soon and with Scott! I had to tell you this, because I can't show you what style I used or what instruments. Well, there is a acoustic guitar in it, the electric guitar one from Scott, drums, bass and keyboards with the ladies from realivox, an acoustic guitar and Sequis from Native instruments (kind of flutes). But that's all for now. Tell me what you think of this song, how we played it or mixed it. And take a look at the cover too. Hans Oh, and I can provide you the lyrics: ===================================================== Just a song (c) Lyrics by HWBerkhout, 221021 V Sunshine I left behind me The cold waits where I go Only my footprints stayed behind This is the mood I'm in, babe Not so sunny that's for sure V It is raining, no one sees the tears in my eyes I weep because sadness rules This is the mood I'm in, babe So I made this song, just for you Ch1 Play it on your own, love Let it ease your pain Soon I'm back, I miss you Sing along the words, babe Pretend we are together I'm not gone Solo1 V When we are together we talk a lot We celebrate all the time we got This is the mood we're in then, babe So this song is for us Solo2 Ch2 Play it on your own, dear Let it ease your pain Soon I'm back, Just for you Sing along the words, babe Pretend we are together I'm not gone Then we sing along these words, babe We are here... and I am home It only took just a song

Hans and Scott,
What a great sounding song! That melancholy melody is perfectly accompanied by your wonderful vocal! Scott's guitar really fits this song very well! Beautiful work by you both! Thanks, Torrey

Hans (and Scott):
Another strong collaboration—even better than your first, and I expect that trend will continue as you continue to work together. The vocal is terrific—it occurs to me that you have an Al Stewart sound to your voice; at least, it’s reminiscent for me (I have listened to Al in years). Production is solid—guitar resonates wonderfully. I’m wondering whether the female BG vocal you have going on is a bit too loud—see what others think, but I might dial that down just a bit. Cool tune!
Bummer about your computer issues--hope it works out for you.
My best to both of you,
Deej

Hans...nice. The flutes give it a Euro Pop 70s sound. The female vocals are rather loud. The less cluttered production with the acoustic leading the way is ace. Some space for Scott's guitar - sonically - might be useful.

Hi Hans and Scott, Really great tune. Hans, your vocals are sounding more and more like Al Stewart (Time Passages, if you're not familiar). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2g0hrrKLNwYou've captured the emotion of the tune really well and Scott's guitar is impressive as always! I enjoyed the listen, thanks for posting!

Really good, guys! Scott sounds great, love his tone. And you do too, Hans, lots of passion in that vocal.
I agree with Ray about the background vocals, too loud. Drop them 3db or so and you are good!
Looking forward to hearing more from you two, you have something good happening I think.

Good song. Very well written. Heartfelt vocals. Scott shined as always. Nice collaboration. The band wasn't too shabby either.

Thanks Torrey for checking out the song. Found it very comfortable playing along with Hans songs. He puts a lot in the lyrics and his vocals. Very creative with background instrumentation as well. Look forward to doing a few more songs with Hans..

Beautiful wistful tune and the vocals express the sentiment perfectly. Scott's guitar is a perfect fit, I really enjoyed hearing that familiar sound. Not just a song, more than a song - the distance is almost tangible.

YES, what a magical collaboration. You and Scott are always superb. Man, that guitar is awesome, and adds so much to this beauty. So well sung, Hans, and your lyrics always shine bright. Such passion in your voice and in Scott's tone. Keep 'em coming guys.

Hans,
A good write. Nice arrangement. Cool vocal - a lot of emotion - nicely recorded..
Scott's guitar sounds great. A nice fit.
I don't hear any too-loud-female-vocals, so I wonder if you uploaded a new mix? Anyway - the mix sounds really good.
You're really upping your game these days!

Deej Thanks Deej for checking out the song. The melody in Hans vocal was the template for the guitar solos. Glad you liked the song

Hans / Scott. Solid tune! Very good vibe. Hans, A+ vocals. Has very wholesome sound and Scott's guitar fit very well. Mix is clear and listens well. The only distraction to my ears is choral Aaaahs, I do not think it fits this instrumental arrangement well. But hey, this is just opinion Enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing. Misha.

Very tasty guitar licks!
Outstanding vocal!
Supreme backing tracks in the most perfect mix.
The perfect collaboration. Your best thus far.
Loved it.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Hi Hans & Scott,
what a nice collab !
Hans, you're songs have become 'unmistakablly Birchwood' - nice sentimental mood, a really fine backing and very well-sung. Scott, your tone is awesome (as is what you're playing, of course).
Mix is excellent, too.
A really fine piece of work.
Stay safe, buddies,
Stefan

Hey get that computer up and going quickly...we need more of this!
Man, this is a fine production. The laid back feel of the arrangement and vocal is perfect for the excellent melody.
It's all there -- your vocal, Scott's performance and the melody...excellent.
Great choice also with the acoustic guitar.
WTG guys!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
