As I Lie Awake - the cheat
Yep, I cheated.
I tried to get a singer.
I tried singing the choruses myself but could not get low enough. Even Melodyne etc. couldn't fix the crook wobbly notes.
I cheated...bumped the whole song up two semitones...sang to that - a little more comfortable - imported the higher vocal, used ReaPitch to drop it 2 semitones and it sounds NOTHING like me but I think it works.
BIAB Drum "stems" and organ with the rest by me.

Here's another crack after folks' comments.
RErevoxed
This time I didn't use ReaPitch to drop the vocals. I used a melodyne variant, which seems to have kept more of the original timbre of my voice, to drop my vocal the required two semitones. I kept the ReaPitch version as a backing/support unison vocal reduced and to the side.

lyrics...
V1
1st world problems pressing in
Eating right, staying thin
Buying wisely and ethical choices
Where to dine away from loud voices
1st world problems pressing in
Sorting rubbish for the bin
Whether to buy an electric car
Will it be convenient? W ill it run far?

C1
In a darkened cell,
Brick walls and door.
Sounds of dripping water
And pacing on the floor.
The voices tell them
Till they resist no more...
Dark thoughts come to me
As I lie awake.

V2
1st world problems pressing in
Delivery or eating in
Bruised egos exhausted emotions
Streaming or cinema commotion?
Does the phone know where I've been
Social media's mind filling din
Will there be signal for my phone?
Finding fish without bones.

C2
In a darkened room,
Brick walls and door.
Focused dripping water
And cables on the floor
The voices yelling
Till they resist no more...
Dark thoughts come to me
As I lie awake.

1st world problems pressing in
Are you hungry, where've you been?
The voices tell them
till they resist no more.

I'm a big fan of cheating!

The consonants were a bit hard to make out in some places, but the lyrics fixed that up.

Enjoyed the song! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Sounded pretty good to me, no criticisms. Yeoman work.

Sounds good to me, Ray.

I would guess if you tried to use that trick the other way, pitch shift up a couple of semitones instead of down, it wouldn't have worked as well? I'll try it sometime, maybe I could extend my very limited range wink

Good song, man!

Hello Ray
You are a real sound scientist ;-)
But the result sounds cool
You have put together a good band
Can you please tell me which rhythm guitars you use
I really like them
Very good and unusual song
Well done Ray
Many greetings
Andi ;-)

Hi Ray,

The voice in the chorus sounds very "human", in the verses it's a bit "robotlike".
But it's a way to sing a melody that's not in your reach.
Nice song anyway.

ray,

a thoughtful write.

vocals work.

guitars are nice. drums sound a bit dry - I would turn them up slightly (personal preference).

Love the sound of the choruses.

Interesting song and recording technique... I had to read the lyrics to follow your thoughts... way cool.
The vox turned out very good, but could be more out front.
Good work Ray.

The deep vocal at the tail end works great, and is its own sound, it's not just lower notes. And doubling guitar taking a solo for the last three notes to come back up to the surface, woo hoo.

Ray,
Unusual twist in production.
It is clear where you tried to get and I respect your strive to conquer the machine, but I like original better. I briefly played around with pitch toys, but found it too labor intensive. It was easier for me just to take a dozen or two takes to get it right smile In any case, fun experiment. If I had this on my hands, I would either try to go human direction of original version, or complete opposite - heavily robo dosed vocs.
Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

P.S. That made me smile: "I'm a big fan of cheating!"

Thanks David.
Yes, the mellower, mellifluous vocal does round off a lot of sounds. I've tried to amend that by using a different pitch changer, in the 2nd version, which r, etains more of my cracked, thin, harsh voice.

Good song, man!

It takes a REALLY good program and a really good user to up something by a couple of semitones without getting chipmonkey.
It was easy to do and the results aren't half bad. I'd prefer not to need to do it but "needs must".

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
