UP TO GOD

I remember all the good times that we, long ago, have had,
I remember all the laughter, I remember all the sad,
I remember when you hugged me, and when you pushed me away
I remember when you left me, on that fateful, lonely day ...

And as we further from each other do but slowly drift away,
I cannot but try one last thing; to beg God to let you stay,
To beg Him, the One Alone who could perhaps make your thoughts sway
Towards me, and wonder how, without you, is my life, my time, my day ...

It's up to God, if He will, to make a move
It's up to God, if He will, to let us choose;
It's up to God, if He will, to bring you near;
It's up to God; I have to stop right here.

We're both walking separate paths, with our hearts beating, apart,
We're both taking different walks, away from pain and all that hurt,
We're both so very proud, we'll never admit we did things wrong ...
Will you ever think of me, and of our love, ago so long?

It's your mind, your soul, your choice ... it's our lives that waste away
With each, every passing minute, every second, every day,
To just talk to you I'd wish, to see if you still want me,
And then quietly I'd slink off, and let all this emotion be ...

It's up to God, if He will, to make a move
It's up to God, if He will, to let us choose;
It's up to God, if He will, to bring you near;
It's up to God; I have to stop right here.

James,

I think this is your best yet.

A good, solid write.

A very nice backing. Cool mandolin solo.

Good vocal. Always nice to hear you sing. You should do that more often.

I was reminded of Rod McKuen's recordings...

Well done.

James,

You’ve made an art form of the spoken word style . . . but I always like to hear when you sing. No exception here. Solid write . . . really like the structure the repetition of the various line provides (“I remember”; “It’s up to God”; “We’re both”). Nice emotion in the delivery . . . and agree that Mandolin solo is slick—well done!

All my best,

Deej

floyd: thank you ever so much. Any comparison or mention of myself and Rod McKuen in the same sentence (however remote) is, to me, a source of immense pride :-) Thanks!

bloc-head: thank you.

Deej: kind as always. Thank you.

I agree with other posters - I prefer your singing over your spoken vocal.

Delicately done, and the mandolin fits well.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Another beauty, James. Such excellent lyrics. The title reminds me of my mom. Whatever would happen (especially if I didn't like it), she would say, "Offer it up to God." One day I said in frustration, "Geez, I always have to offer EVERYTHING up to God." She said, "Now you get it." She would have loved this and all of your songs.

Enjoy whatever happens!

David Cuny: you (and the others) are tempting me to sing more often ;-) Thanks :-)

Marty: thanks so much. Your mother sounds like a really wonderful lady - you really do take after her. Thank you.

Rob and Anne-Marie: thanks for the comments, both about the song and about my voice - the latter, many on here know how insecure I feel about. This gives me the courage to try and sing again - so kind of you to comment so nicely on it!

James, you have a style all your own and you do it so well.

Your vocal was very good so yes you should sing more.

Great lyrics and a super mix

Two thumbs up

"you (and the others) are tempting me to sing more often ;-) Thanks :-)"

Go for it!

We also felt the McKuen vibe.

Like Marty we both thought of our mothers and how much they would have related to this.

Nice band, vocal and mando solo!

Janice, Bud: thank you. Way too kind, especially with the McKuen (whose shoes I am not fit to clean, of course) vibe comment. Like I said to floyd, any comparison to him - however remote - is of course flattering :-) - so thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed the song.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
