I have been very lucky to have done a lot of different and interesting things in my life and I

continue to add to my list.

This may sound like a song about regret. It is simply a song about reflection…

Life Got In The Way

thought I might live out my days fishing away my time

Watching cutthroat trout on the Yellowstone river rising up to a fly

Trying not to lose that fish Trying not to lose my hat

But a man’s gotta work for a living So it didn’t work out like that

wish I could have been a cowboy or maybe a fishing guide

I probably could have been a million things and I sure do wish I’d tried

wish I could have said I love you more and no it’s not ok

Cause Now I’m down to my last excuse Life got in the way

Saw a barrel racer in Cody Man that girl could ride

She was smiling at a cowboy in a brand new shirt that was standing by her side

I won’t win a buckle or her heart so I sat down in my seat

Maybe if I could have done it again that cowboy would be me

wish I could have been a cowboy or maybe a fishing guide

I probably could have been a million things and I sure do wish I’d tried

wish I could have said I love you more and no it’s not ok

Cause Now I’m down to my last excuse Life got in the way

Tommy this is really good and your playing ads warmth and humanity to it.
There's quite a high end build up around your sibilant zone. It is hyper by the bvox "wish" but is there quite a bit...the high strung guitar may be part of the issue.

I enjoyed the narrative, regret and "what if"s eat at many of us.
Your guitar licks really make this a great sounding recording.

Cheers

Don't we all wish that we could have done something different?

Super vocal and lyrics.

You some very serious guitar chops!

Excellent song.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate your careful listening skills. My high end is gone for good from 60 years of standing in front of guitar amps. I struggle with sibilance so I am glad to get some feedback on that, Tom

Good song, I like it.
The mix is a bit too bright, but I think it's still okay.

BTW, 'I sure do wish I'd tried' is actually regret, not reflection grin

Tom...very introspective and relevant to us "seniors"...really nice track...great solo work...love the hook and the way you approached it...it's seems obvious to me that you are a master at this craft...no matter what you wished you could be...you turned out to be what we like and admire around here...an excellent writer, composer and musician...really enjoyed the song in every aspect! Telling a story many of us can empathise with, in a warm, matter-of-fact, yet somehow reflective manner. The harmonies are fabulous. This should be on the radio. Bravo.

Tommy,

Killer track in all respects: the write, the performance, the production. Great hook on the chorus opening—and the chorus in total is outstanding. Perfect guitar solo. This is some mighty fine songwriting.

I'm loving everything about this.

It sounds great on my speakers. The mix, the instruments, the balance - all excellent. Grabs my attention and makes me want to keep listening because it sounds so good.

Good write, good singing, good playing.

Love it. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Another good one Tom. I really liked the writing in this. You've got the whole package here. Writing, musicianship, production - everything is top notch. The way you brought that lead guitar into the break was really good. Hit a topic that most everyone can relate to.

Sounds like that could have been a Michael Martin Murphy song.

Life is too short for excuses... reach out and go for it. You might not ever get that chance again. Good advice in that song.

Pristine mix.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
