Let's Get Drunk For Joy

After several dark and depressing songs from me, I think you deserve something more cheerful. But those expecting complex chord changes will be disappointed, because this has only 3 chords laugh I participated in a 3 chord song contest on a local forum with the original version of this song. It got positive reactions, so I decided to make an English version using the softest Synth V vocalist I have, namely Saros and Weina, Saros really sounds soothing on those lower notes.

To make those chords sound more interesting, I used quite a lot of microchords with rapid changes between them. And, of course, those three chords are not the simplest ones: A7sus, DMaj7, Gm6/Bb smile

And based on my experience, the message of the song is quite simple: drinking alone is depressing, drinking with someone doubles the joy.

Lyrics:

We must undergo the pain
fight it hard but never numb
lips and knuckles can swell up
the kiss of death shall never come.
Grieving has to shake us up
to remove all stubborn smut
so that we could pristinely feel
zest in our guts.

I don't drink alone
I don't sink for sadness
I toast just for joy
in your presence and gladness
for love and beauty
in lust for life.

We must double our joy
not let this bliss be watered down
happy hearts may effervesce
they bubble free and can't be drowned.
Raise the glasses to wake up
chemistry in every sense
freeing the plague of luxury
contagious and intense.

I don't drink alone...

Let's get drunk together
off flavors of wines
off the aura in eyes that shine.
Let's taste the aromas
of the succulent sweeties
on our trips to nightly treats.

I don't drink alone...

Hi, Janne.

As advertised, this is a happy song! smile

Nice and upbeat, vocals sound great. I can tell you from experience I've managed to ruin more than a few songs by trying to be clever with too many complicated chords.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Janne, happy song for sure! Nice, open arrangement, and those vocalists sound great. Great use of microchords, I need to give those another look. THANKS for posting!

Who's Joy? Whose Joy? Another Popfinger pleasure for sure. Great use of the microchords option, and wow it's hard to imagine this only has three chords. No 1-4-5 here. I really dig the driving beat. Really enjoying the lyrics, and you fashion those synth voices so well. Excellent harmony. Excellent write, Janne. Have one for me.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks David for your positive feedback smile It is hard to believe that complicated chords could ruin a song wink

Thanks DC Ron for your pleasant comment smile Yes, I recommend trying microchords, they can create interesting variations even when used on just one instrument.

Hey Janne,

This is great! Loved it! Such a gorgeous production.

The part about drinking made me a remember something my Mom said to me when I was a kid about the "drinking thing." For some reason my Dad and her felt I was growing older and needed to have "the conversation." Or, one of them! smile

Anyway she said:

"Dave, you know that place where people are trying to get to when they drink alcohol?"

"Not really, Mom. I have never had any."

"Well, anyway, what your father and I want you to know is, that place where they want to go, you don't need any artificial ingredients to get there, Dave. Because, I don't know how to say this, but...your brain is making its own juice."

!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ha ha ha.

Things haven't changed much.

Good song!!!!

Janne, just what I needed, a happy go luck drinking song.
Super synth vocals.
Great backing band and mix.
Loved it.

BUT now I have to go and crack open a beer. Don't fret, I will toast it to you!

This is a most joyful write and sounds like it was fun to create too.

There’s almost a rumba feel to it that gives us “happy feet.” Saros and Weina are a perfect fit for each other and we agree with you on the soothing quality of Saros’s low notes.

Great band choice and mix ... no surprise there.

Thanks for lifting us up!

Bouncy and upbeat! The three chords work like a charm. Mix is spot on. Excellent work with the synth voices. Those synths sound like it would be too complicated for me to figure out to use them.

HI Janne,

Definitely a fun song! I really like the percussive elements.

I've used the micro chord option a few times and found them to me quite nice for certain songs. I enjoyed this a lot!

Take care,

Alan

It certainly has a positive and happy feel, but for my personal taste the percussion makes it a bit hectic.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the listen.
Good work on the harmonies!

Hi Janne,

I sometimes have the same feelings as where your post started with; "after several dark and depressing songs... etc."
And the you come up with something cheerful: Drinking!
Sometimes I do that on my one, but only after a hard days work on making songs or reparing things in the house, coocking, or whatever reason.

But at first: your songs can be dark sometimes, but never depressing. I understand you feel that way, but your songs always have a nice twist in them that give me - at least- a smile or a melancholic feeling.
Second: This song is a lovely, funny song with very good use of the artificial vocals. I'm still thinking of making a duet with one or more AI vocals, but I'm still a bit scared of the amount of work that entails.
So, I love your song. Maybe the percussion could use some reverb, but I'm not very sure about that.

Joten: Tsemppiä!

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
