Claude Du Val

He's the master of the London road
With the pistol and the blade
Stand and deliver is his only code
As he robs the carriage trade.

Many the gentleman has paid him well
For his leave to go their way
Many a lady who will never tell
How he stole their heart away.

The King's men seek him high and low
They swear they'll see him swing
But in the tavern called the Broken Bow
Of the Highwayman they sing.

They tell the story of young Claude Du Val
Of his gallantry and charm
And even though he'd robbed them all
He had never done them harm.

In Newgate prison they all came to call
The ladies begged he be set free
And shed their tears as they watched him fall
From that damned old Tyburn Tree.

The King's men seek him high and low
They swear they'll see him swing
But in the tavern called the Broken Bow
Of the Highwayman they sing.
