The music of Old Brasil. Brasilian Roots!

Samba and choro, Brasilian-style and not North American-jazz style.

Samba-cançao! Slow and langquid

Samba at various tempi, slow and fast. Straight and reverse. With 8-bar partido alto patterns in the B sections.

Marisa Monte, Paulinho da Viola, Cartola.

Choro at various tempi, emotional, passionate, not like a ragtime hurdy-gurdy.

Choro waltz, sensual with a big emphasis on the 2 and a drag on the 3.

Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolim, Luciana Rabello, Mauricio Carrilho.

And with Brasilian instruments, 7-string guitar with nylon strings, cavaquinho (steel-string ukulele), pandeiro (the indoor equivalent of the drum kit), bandolim, clarinet, surdo!

You've got a lot of jazz-inflected bossa. How about some of the music of old Brasil? Some real global flavor! A bit of the real thing.

Thanks.

Exactly the post I was about to make!

Just went to YouTube and found this, which highlights the same concept I'm looking for.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlRZlsQYvVI

I'm playing choros on guitar and would like some rhythm like this to play over.
Especially it would be great to have cavaquinho (ukulele) rhythm.

Actually, I had something more like this in mind:

Murmurando, a true choro classic.

More links to follow.

A modern "pagode" style tune performed by Caraivana, one of Brazil's great new roots bands. The tune is samba-based, but very much in the roots mode.

Chords and Brazilian rhythms in the high strings of the cavaquinho, 7-string guitar slithering connecting basslines countermelody style, surdo (actually tom-tom in this case) on the backbeats. It's a 2/4 style, but 4/4 cut-time can be worked to the same effect.

"Ser feliz" which means "be happy"

Great infectious groove, and I can't help but think that this could be done in BIAB.

Caraivana again, on the Jacob do Bandolim classic "Vibrações," a slow choro, 7-string guitar, bandolim (mandolin), pandeiro (hand-drum with jingles), tom-tom.

Yes that's an excellent example. I would be happy to find that in BIAB. Great for practicing choros!

Ser feliz - What a fun video! I think it's worth rattling some cages a bit to get these styles into the mix. BIAB sells in Brazil, right? Brazil is the up-and-coming place, right? I wonder if there's anything we can do to help this along. I'm having fun learning some choros, but this metronome just doesn't cut it!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
