Please, update the Midi style player. At this time, the Biab styles are only able to play a limited number of seventh chords.

The chords that add spice to the music are not played by any Style or instrument *.

*to be fair: Biab has developed a workaround for chording instruments. The style may use “Macro Notes”, only available for chording instruments and limited to a few techniques: strums, block chords... this way these macro notes can play ALL the chords...

Updating the Biab style player would mean a lot for us, users

  • For us, music students: it ‘d help us learn harmony better
  • For us, biab-lovers: it ‘d make arrangements sound better without clashing between harmony, our playing and the bass part
  • For us, (slowly) advancing amateurs: it would help us play more intricate stuff (Burt Bacharach, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Bill Evans, Branford and Wynton Marsalis, Joni Mitchell...)
  • For us, arrangers: we could do better in spicing up our music with nice approach chords, constant structure chords, harmonic borrowing
  • For us, music lovers: we go through great lengths in writing down and looking up the correct chords. It’s only fitting that Biab would then play the right changes
  • For us, consumers of great Fake books, New Real Books et al: some companies (1 in particular) gives us the possibility to buy sgu files with all the correct changes. It’s sad that Biab fails to play it correctly
  • For us, biab-amateurs: Biab has become our one stop practicing, song writing, arrangement tool. Please provide us with correct sounding arrangements.
  • For us, longtime biab-users: having used biab for years and years, we dread having to move our songs, arrangements and lead sheets to other brands, say Yamaha, Wersi, vArranger, 1manband. They lack the ease of Biab for one. And translating our existing music, styles to these other brands is -sadly- a very time consuming business. Even if these brands would play the right bass notes and arrangements. Moreover, Pgmusic is a real community of users helping each other out, looking for workarounds in case of problems and generally enjoying biab, despite our loving criticism of the outdated biab-features and looks, the bugs and quirks, the overly complex lay-outs, preferences and menus... we’ve always accepted this, for love of biab.
  • For us, creative style-makers: open to a whole new scene of promising and fascinating jazz, rock, country and folk players, we want to make jazz and acoustic styles that reflect this contemporary wave: polyrhythmic (biab can do that already), more intresting bass lines (9ths, mMaj7 et al) and new ways of voicing guitar and piano (not possible with Macro Notes)
  • For us, loyal customers: some of us have been buying and updating Biab for a long time. For most of us, the investment is comparable to buying a really good guitar, trumpet, piano every 6 or 7 years.
  • For serious students of music: though most of us are amateurs, serious students would benefit more from biab and use it more, if the accompaniment was correct
  • For all of us: most biab-users have not noticed the mistakes biab makes. Bass parts are often only 1-5 or root only. But when things become intresting, Biab plays wrong notes, especially in the bass. That makes us doubt our abilities. It’s a shock for a lot of users to learn that the wrong sound is often up to Biab.

A BIG +1

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
