Biab uses Sforzando to play the instrument samples. If I edit one of these sfz files like 61 Classic Bass.sfz in a text editor and change 61 Classic Bass.wav to 61 Classic Bass.mp3 or 61 Classic Bass.ogg compressed formats they still work perfect in Biab app or any DAW. I can convert the RealTracks to ogg or mp3 and create a sfz to play back any section of any RT file instantly playing from one section to another section in another file using the keyboard notes. Biab relies purely on decompressing wma/m4a (when wav/aiff not present), writing it to RAM then rendering to wav/aiff, that was needed way back in the past. You need to make a quantum catch up leap. Krystal Audio Engine(2004) plays back compressed ogg files direct.
Sforzando can play WAV, AIFF, FLAC, OGG or MP3 they could even make it play wma. Again this is another reason why the BBPlugin can play wma/m4a direct. 2023 a year to see, to finally break free, liberty.

Here's a play direct vst, just unzip and drag song.sfz into Sforzando VST or Standalone. This is playing compressed mp3 sections on demand from different bars in the mp3 file. Hold a key down then move to another key. This is the same way the BBPlugin can play back wma/m4a direct. song.zip

SFZ OPCODES:
sync_beats
Region playing synchronization to host position.
When sync_beats is specified and after input controls instruct the region to play, the playback will be postponed until the next multiple of the specified value is crossed. Example #
sync_beats=4
In this example, if note is pressed in beat 2 of current track, note won’t be played until beat 4 reaches.
This opcode will only work in hosts featuring song position information (vstTimeInfo ppqPos).

Unzipped to desktop Opened Sforzando stand alone sfz loads fine but only plays crashing sound.... Any advice? Charlie EDIT: After testing, Sforzando standalone is playing everything with the crashing sound. Loading files, Band in a Box and Timbres of Heaven sounds all load but don't play the sounds. Opened 64 and 32 bit programs. Tested with Hi-Q in BIAB, everything's good.

Same issue with standalone and distorted sounds here with current Sforzonda v1.933, which is years old. There is an update available V1.973 (Nov 2022) for windows https://www.plogue.com/downloads.htmlHowever, I am not interested at this time to update this since it is working find in BIAB and I don't have any other needs for the standalone and I am not looking for ways to breck my workflow.

I have the v1.973 version installed. I just tested it. I dropped the file into the standalone version. It seems to works fine (I can't hear any distortion), both the mp3 and wma versions.

My stand alone version of sforzando is 1.6.0.5 6/29/21 and the vst version is 1.9.2.7.6/29/21 but like Dan, sforzando is working ok in my BIAB software, so I'll leave things as they are. In my case, I also don't have any current use for the standalone and I'm not looking to risk breaking my BIAB program.

Thanks for testing. The other guys maybe just trying the original mp3 and not the wma. You can convert the mp3/wma to any other format wav, aiff, flac, ogg then just drop the sfz into Notepad and change .mp3 to any other extension you want to try. This is a wav version of the Arranger demo SFZ-Arranger.zip

It's high risk updating ! because now they give you a VST3 version of Sforzando as well 32 and 64bit VST. If you are using Biab only in your "Studio" you won't want the VST3 as it won't work in Biab and will only work in new DAWs that you probably don't use.. 1 min later

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
