Is it possible to keep most of the 150gb of files on an external SSD drive and just have the main program on the internal drive? While using the program, point it to the external HD for the source files and then just have any project files on the internal HD I am limited on space on my laptop and before I make the purchase, I need to know if this is possible. Thank you The Fishman
If you purchase BiaB on hard disk, you can install only the basics onto your main computer drive, and run the majority of the data files from the external drive.
You could also download everything to your external drive and then install (setup) the program to run from there. This way, only very minimal files are actually copied/installed onto your internal drive (e.g. fonts required for Windows, etc).

That is Awesome! Just what I needed to know. One more question, before I make the leap. Des the program know where the files are located, or do I have to tell it? thanx again.
Either. You tell it where the files are during installation; it’s one of the options. If you move the files manually, just go into Options, Preferences, RealTracks and you’ll see an area for custom location or words to that effect. Then do the same thing in Options, Preferences, RealDrums.

The steps for installing to an external drive are a bit different depending on if you are using Mac or Windows. Which system are you using?
Very good point, Chantelle. This is why some of us have recommended there be at least a minimum signature in everyone’s posts indicating the platform used.
To the op, tfmc, my answer was based on the Windows version of BIAB.

Yep.... I absolutely run mine from the Factory HDD. Select the minimal install option and it will guide you through the rest of the process and you simply tell it to use the BB HDD with whatever letter designation it has in your machine.
If you have problems, there's a BB forum here and just ask your questions in the proper place and you'll get wisdom that surpasses the ages.

Hello Matt, Sorry if I disturb you, but, having seen on your signature that you have BIAB 2022 Audiophile, I wanted to ask you: I just got the 2022 pro upgrade, I installed it in the same as my previous BIAB edition, and I would like to compare my directories and their contents to yours in the audiophile edition. I wish to thank you by advance for your cooperation. As a fact, I put a copy of my dirs listings on my website (https://www.affordsol.be/BIAB-Dir-Listing.txt) Thanks again, regards from Belgium, and good weekend
Hello. I’m willing to answer questions, but I’m not sure what you would like to know.
Not only do I have the audiophile version (and many others here do as well) but I have 30 years of ‘extras’ since I have purchased most (not all) of the optional add-on products offered by PG Music. My total /BB folder is unlikely to match anyone else’s.
Affordsol, I'm still interested in what your question is.
Morales, I can't tell from your comment if you have a question/problem or not. If you are saying you can do a minimal install, and run BIAB with the RealTracks and RealDrums on the supplied external USB drive, then yes, that's fine.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
