I have been a BIAB user for several years.
My friends and I have recently created a 10-person group that wants to play jazz standards. On the Hall Leonard website you can buy sheet music for individual songs (link attached https://www.halleonard.com/product/7013120/the-girl-from-ipanema?lid=2&promotion=1179promotion=1179& ).
I have a question where we can get or buy jazz standards for combo but saved in BIAB format so that there are notes for individual instruments and the sound track?
Thanks in advance for the hint.
The question is whether PG music could not cooperate with Hall Leonard, for example, so that something like that could be bought from them or you.

Dan, are the jazz standards you mentioned only for a 5 piece band? Maybe I'm wrong but I got the impression that Piotr wanted BiaB songs that contained all of the parts for his 10 piece band so he could hear and print each track.

If I'm wrong Piotr I have a number of jazz standards in BiaB form but only for a 5 piece combo.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

No, I don't suspect any of these collections of historical FakeBook Jazz Standards which I am sure you and I both have a boat load of, would lay our 10 tracks. But for a newbee it would be a start.

Check out Learn Jazz Standards website, which has a lot of Jazz Standards to work with - they even bundle with Band-in-a-Box (for those new customers), so you know they work well together!

The Learn Jazz Standards page is for the $79 upgrade, which you do see on our website too. This is an upgrade for existing version 2019 or earlier customers.

You guys are missing the OP's point which is copywritten melodies. PG Music or any other commercial company cannot include the melodies or lyrics to songs without getting permission (meaning paying) the rights owner. And another big misconception is the rights owner is the original writer of the song. Not true, most have been bought out by the big publishers like Sony or Universal. Hal Leonard has permission which is why you have to pay for those books.

Biab only gives you backing tracks by law. It would cost an absolute fortune to include the melodies and/or lyrics to thousands of jazz Real Book songs.

Please, the word is copyrighted. It refers to protecting one's rights in regards to copies of intellectual property.

"copywritten" is used in advertising, news, reporting etc. It's copy that has been written.

And, yes, it is a big deal to some people.

Correct. Each title requires a license from the publisher which would be very expensive if PG Music were to pay the statutory rates.

The publisher is any one or entity who has the rights to make works available to the public (the root of publish). Sub-publishing deals are the norm these days, not the "most" situation you describe. End to end deals and exclusive catalog deals are extremely rare despite the huge amount of publicity they've received over the last 20 years when a valuable catalog changes hands as The Beach Boys's did yesterday.

Hal Leonard is the largest publisher of sheet music in the world but they rarely control other rights to the works they print.

I thought that, when I retired from the copyright protection industry, I would no longer be dealing with intellectual property rights. Ha! I'm busier than ever but dealing with music publishers nowadays.

learnjazzstandards.com is an individual that sells his lessons on how to learn and play and improvise over jazz standards. He sells BIAB as well.

On my blog you can pick up some mgu files of standards for free. Thing is, the melody has been written out, but not in the real book way. It wouldn’t make a perfect print, the melody is often adapted to how a certain artist plays it on one of my faborite albums. It’s just for playing and practicing.

A lot of modern songs too, Scofield, Metheny, Jarrett, Kenny Wheeler.

The Norton stuff is the best there is, with all the right changes. Sadly, no melody. I just hope Sher music or any other publisher would hook up with Bob Norton to produce sets of biab songs and realbooks. With the melody in the notation window.

Biab, Kontakt, Sampletank and lots of nice libraries, from Fluffy audio to Abbey Road drums.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
