Can anyone help me setup my Ipod Touch BIAB app. I have just downloaded the app, the easy bit, and watched the server setup video. The first thing it asks for is the BIAB server IP, which it says is located on your BIAB server application, well I can't find this anywhere.

I hoping someone has already got this thing running and would really appreciate any help.

The router setup bit I think I can handle.

Thanks
Keith

Keith, I am about to do the same thing, and like you, I just got the app (agreed, the easy part).

There are some good instructions by Andrew from another post; I'll look for that. There really should be a sticky with the "how to".

Hi Keith,

You don't say which operating system you use.
I will assume (maybe wrongly) that you use Windows.

I have the iPod Touch and use the Band-In-A-Box App with it. My Operating version is Windows 7 64 bit.

Note: You must have the latest version of Band-In-A-Box (which is 2011)

If you open Band-In-A-Box and then click on the Window menu item (at the top of the screen)
You will see that at the very bottom is a menu item BB2Go.
Select that item and when the next screen opens up you will see various buttons etc.
You need to click on the button:- Run Band-In-A-Box service now.
This will start the server for you.
If you now click on your Windows Task bar you should see the Band-In-A-Box server icon (which is a little musical note)
If you double click on the icon it will open up and show you the IP address (there are other options available as well)

Once you get it going you may notice that there are some little nuisances for example...
When I generate a mp4 file (NOTE: you need the latest Quicktime from apple) it sometimes generates a very long silence at the end of the song.
What I do to correct that is bring it into Audacity and delete the silence at the end.
I save it as a m4a file as Audacity doesn't have a save as mp4.
Then I just change the file name extension from m4a to mp4 and it works.

Hope this is of some help.

Best regards
Michee

Thanks a lot Michee, that was a great help and I now have it working, although I saved a Realtracks demo in the bb2go folder and generated an MP4 file of it, however when it finished it said it tells me Rendering of MIDI is completed. File Saved is named J:bb\bb2go\_B140_AS DEMO (ALL REALTRACKS-BossaBass,Piano,AltoSax)_Render.WAV. FileSize is 0k. It's generating the song on the Ipod OK but taking it's time.

I have Windows 7 32bit, BIAB 2011 and Apple Quicktime installed, so a little confused at the moment.

Thanks again
Keith

Hi Keith,

I was having the same problem as you are i.e. generating Wav files instead of mp4 files.
The reason it's taking a long time is that you are downloading a file that is very big because it is a Wav file.
For example a Wav file of say 37mb will be reduced to a 2-3mb mp4 file.

Things to check....
Do you have the latest version of Band-In-A-Box (version 314) installed?
Do you have the latest version of Quicktime installed?

If you have any ant-virus software installed... disable it for the next steps.
NOTE: I had McAfee installed and had to go into safe mode to un-install it until I had completed the next step.

I un-installed Apple Quicktime and rebooted my computer then reinstalled it ON DRIVE C:\ this step is important (I had Quicktime installed originally on drive F:\ for space considerations and it did not work- Peter Gannon couldn't confirm that Band-In-A-Box checked where Quicktime was installed as he said it only checks the registry entry - but on drive C:\ it works.)

If the above fails to work for you...try this as a workaround.
Take the Wav file into Audacity and EXPORT the file (with the same name) as a m4a file to your bb2go folder.
Close Audacity without saving.
Go to your BB2go folder and change the file extension from m4a to mp4 (it will ask if this is OK..click on yes)NOTE remember to delete the original Wav file from the BB2go folder as you don't need it as you have a mp4 file now.

Now try downloading the file onto your iTouch.

Hope this helps

Thanks again for your help Michee, I am bang upto date with everything and Quicktime is installed on my C drive. I can get the songs across OK, but I'm going to try your workaround anyway.

The other question is, how do you delete songs from the ITouch?

Thanks again

Hi Keith,

When you are in the iTouch App select file open and you will see a list of your songs.

Now this is a little hit and miss....depends on how good your fingers are!
If you select (near the right hand side..beside the little alphabet you may or may not open a menu that allows you to load or Delete the file.
NOTE if you are only updating the file it will overwrite any existing file with the same name on your iTouch.

Sorry I can't be more exact... I have never been able to get it exact every time when I try it.

Best regards
Michee

Thanks yet again Michee, it works OK for me.
I loaded some songs into it last night, and although I muted a RealTrack I didn't need it still played it on the Ipod. I have the latest build 314 (Feb 8 2011) which claims it's fixed Muting etc, have you, or anyone else noticed this.

Hi Keith,

On the iTouch there is a menu item setting which will Mute a RealTrack.
This sometimes works (as you have found out) but you have to regenerate the song again for it to take.
NOTE: this is regenerate on the Itouch.

What I tend to do (because I play guitar) is in Band-In-A-Box, I mute the Tracks I don't want then save to the BB2go folder. Then load the song back into the iTouch App.

I have noticed what you say about it having been fixed in Band-In-A-Box version 314 but it still has a bit to go.
If you click on the iTouch screen to change the key (say from G to A) it will allow you to do that but that is all.
It doesn't ask you if you want to transpose etc..
So even although the iTouch App is brilliant, I would like to see (over time) the programmers enhance it a little.

For the present I would do most of your work in Band-In-A-Box before sending it to the iTouch.

Just a tip for you....
If you have a midi file that you have opened in Band-In-A-Box and it is all on the melody track.
Move it all to the Soloist track.. then delete the channels you don't want to hear.
If you just mute them by clicking on the play radio button beside the track it will mute the track whilst it is playing but when you generate the song for the iTouch it will play them again.
Phew.......

Best regards
Michee

P.S. the reason you move it to the Soloist track is that the generate as mp4 doesn't look at the Melody track at times...

Thanks for all your help Michee, the penny's dropping with the this app. It appears that whatever settings you do on your main PC eg; Volume, Pan, Reverb etc, it has no effect when the song is transferred to the app, so I just do all the settings I want etc on the Itouch and regenerate it, it takes a bit longer but maybe there will be more improvements to come.

Cheers
Keith
