Hi,
I downloaded this program at the beginning of the month and couldn't believe what a great program it was. However, since then, i cannot believe what a piece of cr@p it is.

I straight away started getting crashes in BIAB and RealTracks, I downloaded the 456 upgrade which didn't help.

I noticed that when I used style picker in BIAB, some of the instruments were missing and I was getting yellow error messages. When I tried to redownload the patches it was taking hours, and at the end i was getting a failed message.

Tech help finally replied to my email I sent after a crash and they suggested that I download ver 456 and run as admin, which i had already done. They also asked me what I was doing when it happened, I would have thought the the report should have told them that.

Today, I thought that I would try to download the patches again, this time they downloaded in minute not hours, and were successful. However, after i installed them all, I again had both programs crash when I opened them, both with the same error...."Access Violation in Rdaw1148.Dll file"

I can understand now why they say that they don't give refunds after you have bought the program, they would go out of business if they did.

Does anyone here have any idea what is happening with the programs, cos tech help sure doesn't.

Regards...

Hi Torq2,

I hear your frustration.

In relation to your comment about "don't give refunds".... I'm not quite sure where you got this information from. PG Music have a '30-day Money Back Guarantee' that's advertised big and bold on their homepage. Over the years, I've seen some purchasers use this. There's never been any questions asked. PG Music have always acted with integrity.

In relation to your problem.....

Your experience is a most unusual one. As far as I recall, I've never come across the above error message before. When I did a search on Google for the error, nothing came up.

Also, after searching my computer thoroughly, no such file exists on my system, anywhere. This seems to indicate that the error is due to something else and not specifically BIAB. I wonder if this might be related to antivirus software. What do you use? (Is it Norton perchance?)

In addition, so we can help, please let us know the following....

1. What BIAB package did you buy?

2. What are your computer specifications?

3. What is your operating system?

4. What folder did you install the program too?

5. Do you have a special soundcard?

6. Initially it seems the program worked for you. What sequence of actions from there led to the error you give?

I've been on these forums for a long time and your experience is a highly unusual one. For most, BIAB is simply install and use.

In the meantime, if you are seeking a refund, I suggest you contact PG Music sales. In your email, give the URL of this thread.

Regards
Noel

Hello Torq2 and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with Band-in-a-Box. Hopefully we can help.

My first thought is you have a corrupted download file. If you agree this is likely true then there are some things you can do. The RealBand and Band-in-a-Box programs are combined into one file download. Delete the file from your hard drive AND clear your browser cache memory, reboot the computer to clear any remnants in computer ram then download and install the file once more.

Some additional information will help us better help you. Please describe your computer hardware and operating system. Which Band-in-a-Box package did you purchase; Pro,Mega, Plus, Everything or Audiophile? Adding this information to your signature line in your profile means the information is always available.

Your original post says "Access Violation in Rdaw1148.Dll file"
The issue appears to have occurred in some Roland app you are using.

Does this yield any clues?
Are you using a Roland interface or anything Roland?
Kinda sounds like this might be a situation where PGMusic products are trying to work with another product and the other product has an error that the PGMusic product is passing along to the user (hey, I crashed because of this app over here)
My Google search of this DLL file turned up Roland.

I'm a Roland fan, so I'm not picking on them, but that's what *I* see in your originally posted error message.

Hi All,

Thanks for replying. I downloaded...bandinabox_realband_2017_megapak. I am running it through my Boss GT-001, which is Roland as you guessed.

Having calmed down and thought about it, it did work when I first downloaded it, although the realcombo's didn't download properly. I was urged buy the program to download the update, ver456, which I did and I believe that this started my problems. Neither BIAB nor RealTracks would start and throw up the error I mentioned.

I then did a system restore and they worked again. Although the Realcombo's still had instruments missing. I then tried to redownload them but they took hours and most failed to download.

I then started using BIAB and it appeared fine. Then I received a email from PG music saying that I should install the update ver456 and this should solve my problem, which I did.

At the same time I managed to download Realcombo's and install them. However, that's when both programs crashed again with the same error. late last night I did another system restore and they are both working fine at present. When i ran BIAB it suggested that I upgrade to ver456, which I most definitely didn't.

I am now thinking that the problem is something to do with ver456, and I guess from what you said Rharv, Roland.

I bought the program through Midi-Music and not directly from PGMusic, mainly because it was a lot cheaper. I thought that I read on their site, that there were no refunds for downloaded software. Having had another look I can't actually find that now, so maybe i was mistaken.

I have been using it tonight and it seems to be working Ok, even the instruments appear to be all there. I'm hoping now that it will work fine from now on, as long as I don't upgrade i guess. I'll keep you posted if it doesn't.

regards

Torq,

It's not common but updates have sometimes created issues for some users.

If that happens, simply go to the Support link (at the top of the page) and download the previous update. (The link to the update site is below.)

http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

Once it's downloaded, install it and BIAB will revert to the previous build.

I'm glad to hear that things a working a bit better for you today.

All the best,
Noel
Hopefully you got it all worked out and everything will run like it should.

I've had a few things go haywire on me but a call to PG tech support got the issues resolved quickly. They are amazing and deal honestly and above board. They've done things for me and others here that they didn't have to do.

Regarding updates and bug fixes.... if it's working fine for me, I don't try to "fix it", I let it run. I don't know how many times trying to fix something that really wasn't broke did in fact break it.

This forum is loaded with very knowledgeable folks when it comes to recording, songwriting, and the inner workings of BB/RB, so feel free to come here and ask questions when you get stumped. Someone will jump in and give you a hand.

Oh yeah...and WELCOME!!
I get a similar error message occasionally. I have a Roland V-Studio 100 as an interface. Here is a copy of a support message I got back in 2012 that still works for me:
---------
Hello,

The RDAW.DLL file is a file belonging to a cakewalk/edirol/roland soundcard. My advice is to close Band-in-a-Box and unplug the soundcard. Then delete the following files out of the BB folder

Mysetup.DK
Intrface.bbw

At this point open Band-in-a-Box and when you get to the main after clicking ok on the setup dialogs, close Band-in-a-Box, plug in the soundcard and wait for a good 10seconds. Then open Band-in-a-Box and set it up to use the dedicated soundcard that was producing the error again.

Thanks,
Rob

Thanks all,

I'm on day 3 now and no problems, it must have been the update that caused it. I'll check out the BB files to be certain..
