Hello,
I have Band-in-a-Box UltraPAK+ BIAB 2019 in a desktop computer.
I installed all the SETS for this computer into an external disk.

Now I need to use BIAB in a portable computer for live gigs.
How can I use all the sets in this second computer and the external hard drive (already have the sets installed)?

I hace pointed the path of REAL TRACKS and REAL DRUMS in the settings to the external HD folder... but the REAL STYLES still appears greyed.

Is the a way to say to BIAB where are the SETS?

Any help is welcome.
THanks

why use BIAB? I used to export wav files from BIAB then transfer them to mp3s with audacity for playing live which was dead easy. it also had the advantage of being transferable to other machines. we put the with mp3files on a usb drive for the the laptop but also had them on an ipod as back ups.

if you are just using your BIAB songs as backing tracks its easier and simpler.
Hi Bob,
I need to be able to use BIAB for example to change speeds, choruses repetitions, change KEY for singers, etc.

THanks . Regards,
Montxo
I believe you get 3 licenses with your purchase. I have BIAB on a desktop and laptop with no problems. I did do a full install on each machine. Not sure about the external drive but it should be ok to use.

Just install the whole thing on your laptop
An alternative to what Silvertones mentions is to install the minimal install on the laptop and use the USB drive for running BIAB. This means, after the minimum install, you'd need to start BIAB using the BBW.exe on the USB drive.

It's also possible to install everything except the Realtracks and Realdrums onto your laptop. This saves space on the computer. For the Realtracks and Realdrums, you would then set preferences to see the USB drive (just as you have done).

These options are given during the installation process.
Thanks everybody.
It seems to me that I have not been able to explain properly my question.

Anyway Many Thanks.

Do you not have room on your laptop?
Montxo, I think you explained your question quite well. I'm going to recap to see if I understand this correctly.

You have a desktop with BIAB. You also have a laptop, you installed the minimal install of BIAB to it (as Noel described), and plugged in your external drive onto which you have already copied all the RealTracks and RealDrums from your desktop. You then went into Preferences, RealTracks (and RealDrums) in BIAB on the laptop and specified the external drive as their location.

RealTracks and RealDrums work, but RealStyles do not. Is that your question?

Is everything I said correct about the steps you took?

When you copied the RealTracks and RealDrums to an external drive, did you keep the /BB/RealTracks and /Bb/Drums folder structure? I'm not sure if that's necessary but I always do it that way.

Just a few comments about some of the other posts: you received a valid suggestion that many who use a laptop for performance decide to save the song as a MP3 or WAV. But I do understand wanting the flexibility of the full BIAB program as you say. I've done that, too.

And yes, you get three authorizations, to put BIAB on the desktop and laptop as well as have one left over.
HI John,
I am planning to use a SURFACE for BIAB live gigs. The problem is not the disk space but to avoid to install all the Realtrack and Realdrums AGAIN in another disk or laptop.

For example, NATIVE INSTRUMENTS has a way to install a fresh copy of the instruments and just say where the sound files are located.
It seems that BIAB has not.

Thanks,
Montxo

I have a Surface that I use for BiaB. I use it at work for creating songs. Don't really do live gigs with it, but I do have BiaB and all the Real Trks and Drums and the program itself installed on an external drive.

SO it is possible. Something about the way BiaB is installed on your system is preventing it from seeing the correct Real Styles it needs. And people are trying to help. They just need more info from you.

These are very knowledgeable people that are trying to help. More experienced in BiaB (and computers in general!) than I have for sure!
Not trying to tell you what to do however the only reason to not install the whole thing is space. If you have space I don't understand the logic.
Hi MAtt,
thanks a lot for your message.
I have finally installed all the REAL stuff again in another HD to be used with the laptop.

I was trying to avoid to reinstall the files but it seems that there is no a procedure to make the BIAB softwate to know that you have the files into a disk. .. keeping the directory strutute, of course, but no way.
It seem to be necesary to install everything to let it know.

THanks a lot.

Montxo
So you have it working? Sounds like it.
