Thanks Jim

Tried it still no joy !!

I use this in my DAW. As I recall it is just a typical VST which is placed on an individual track. Don't know exactly how it would be applied in BAIB other than what you seem to have tried.

Thanks Dan

I'm beginning to think it might not work in BIAB ?.

Had this same issue which frustrated me to no end until I finally figured it out.

Basically, you need to open the drop-down list immediately above where the VST displays.

Change "MIDI channel: all" to "Forced: Channel 1."

P.S. I'm writing this from my mobile while traveling on vacation with my wife, so unfortunately I cannot attach a screenshot. :-(

Maybe one of the other wonderful folks here can attach one in case my directions weren't clear?

Hope this helps!

Glad to hear it!

Currently at the foot of the Swiss Alps, so I'm most definitely enjoying the vacation! :-)

It was mentioned that I had not made my explanation public. I am not an "AIR VSTi to BIAB" interface “expert.” Like I told someone else.

I DO NOT USE ANY OF THESE IN BIAB (Xpand, Kontakt, Omnisphere, UVI Falccon, Sampletnanak, East-West, ...). I ONLY use GM synths (Forte DXi, TTS-1, my external SC-8850, etc.) to lay out a sketch of sounds for a song. I only use bigger and non-GM synth VSTi's, or external HW synths/ROMplers, in a proper full fledged DAW like Reaper, Studio One, FL Studio, Mixcraft, Sonar, etc. I think folks are frankly nuts to try and shoe horn these massive non-GM synths into BIAB or try and use BIAB as an audio recording studio but that's just me, and why to this day I don't know why we needed a 64-bit BIAB.

Besides like I told Jim (Fogle) the last 15-16 months I've not even used BIAB or VSTi's or DAW's I've been way too busy learning and really enjoying my Fractal AXE FX III.

Here's what I told Beatmaster, how I would use XPand!2 in BIAB (cut and paste what I explained). And a FWIW, I’m 95+% sure Xpand!2 isn’t as straight forward as other VSTi plugins for use in BIAB because Xpand, and all AIR VSTi’s, were originally designed “exclusively” for use in Pro Tools, which itself is different. But again that’s just MY OPINION (now the Pro Tool lovers will turn up napalm on me for that one).

================================

Hope this isn't too confusing or off putting - and before you start, in the end you can use all 7 BIAB parts and have each one sound separately using XPAND!2 but as I start to explain it you might panic and think you cannot you CAN - just read to end.

Some info first: 1) Again it's not a GM and 2) For each XPAND!2 use, or instantiation, it is limited to 4 parts (like old Cakewalk’s Dimension Pro is) but works differently than Dim Pro. Each part responds on one of four different XPAND MIDI channels 1,2,3 or 4 (confusing at first) -. Yes they are the usual definition of MIDI channels (1,2,3 and 4) but XPAND uses them in a more restrictive sense.

You cannot send out data form BIAB on actual MIDI channels 5 through 16 because XPAND will not “hear” that MIDI data - But that’s not a hardship once you understand HOW to use XPAND!2 within BIAB.

This will sound stupid but for EACH BIAB MIDI part/instrument put a copy XPAND on that part. Next since you can only select an XPAND!2 MIDI “channel” of 1, 2, 3, or 4 – then within BIAB for EACH BIAB MIDI Part/instrument use the “Forced MIDI channel =1, or 2, or 3 or 4”. Then inside XPAND!2 put the part (or PARTS) you want on the SAME channel or on sequential channels for complex layering across different BIAB PARTS but that is something you probably do NOT want to do when using XPAND in BIAB.

Actually you could layer different sounds (up to four sounds) in XPAND!2 and have those XPAND PARTS all respond to just one channel or a mix of XPAND channels 1,2,3 or 4. by setting the MIDI Channel within the XPAND Parts)

Inside XPAND DO NOT THINK of these like actual MIDI Channels 1 to 16 (they are but easier if you don’t think of them like that) think of them more as each Xpand instantiations internal parts responding to data coming in on one upto four fixed frequencies (separate and distinct of MIDI “channel”) - each starting at XPAND’s "frequency" of 1.

Not sure how else to explain it – just give it a try and you’ll start to get it

Good luck all

I won't napalm you as a Pro Tools user Larry! smile Actually, I think it's pretty cool you figured out a way to do this. I just like to use all my virtual instruments on the Pro Tools side and leave BIAB/RB to handle song creation. I'm sure that some folks will love to try your solution! Kudos!

Musiclover

Thanks will give it a go.

This will be the same work around as Xpand 2 to get it to work ?.
Posted By: musiclover Re: Xpand 2 - 10/18/19 02:32 PM
Well worked out of the box for me Beatmaster, nothing to do in biab to get sound, just put it in a midi track as you know, and you are raving to go, just select a sound from the library.

Of course there are loads of things to adjust there if you feel the need, its amazing how one of these synths in a track can change how the whole mix sounds.

I have found though that in windows 10 on my system Avast antivirus affect the loading of Vacuum pro or Xpand 2, makes the plugin blury, so I have to disable Avast, may not apply to you though.
