I'd like to add one or two channels to what's already there.
Currently there are 7 channels.

What if I wanted to add an 8th?

There is an Audio Track available from the button as shown.
You may be able to mix tracks and bounce down to that track, but it would be easier to do in RealBand, which has 48 tracks (presuming you are using the Windows version of BiaB smile ).

agree - just open the file in RealBand
The correct answer is to move your project over to RealBand. It is designed and intended to perform DAW functions such as having additional channels available.

But in my opinion, it depends on your intended use for these additional channels to whether to or when to, you think it's better, faster and more convenient to move your project to RB or not to.

Here are some examples that you may find useful to continue your project in BIAB. Especially if you're experimenting, auditioning and exploring which can all be situations that the BIAB project may be discarded and is not intended as a serious piece of work.

. Each BIAB Mixer Channel can have up to 10 instruments assigned to it simultaneously.
. These instruments can be assigned to play as a replacement instrument or to be summed and all play simultaneously.
. PGMusic staff have created Styles containing Medleys to showcase and use in projects. Search the StylePicker filtered for Medleys.
. The Medley features was updated and expanded in the 2020 release of Windows BIAB. Now individual instruments can be panned and volume automated separately on each track.
. New Medley combinations were created and added to the Styles database.

According to the end use of your project, it may be sufficient to do a complete project within BIAB. BIAB is capable of creating very complex and sophisticated songs and do it very quickly, efficiently and provide a better quality result than one may expect. BIAB automates functions that can be controlled manually in RB or other DAW's and that is a major point that most users deem unacceptable and they are unwilling to cede that capability to the software.

Should you just open the file in RealBand? Probably. But don't be afraid to test the capabilities of BIAB either.

The Medleys feature is just one area of BIAB that is under estimated and under used. The Artist Performance Track along with the Audio Channel is the key that gives BIAB the ability to function as an 8 Channel digital Multi Track Recorder like the hardware units on the market. The take away from this fact is BIAB can have many more than 8 tracks with 8 instruments. It can produce dozens of instruments on dozens of channels without ever accessing any other software program. If you're one that the current crisis has forced you into self containment. Take an afternoon and play with BIAB as a Multi Track Recorder. It's lot's of fun. You can learn more about what an Artist Performance Track can do by checking out my post about them in the User Tracks Forum.
