To take this to an extreme, I’ve written big band charts where the rhythm section simply cuts out during the shout chorus. In rehearsal, I’ll have the drums give me a click on 2 & 4 until the horns know their parts.

Try out NewOrleansSwinginPop^ . There's a ton of variations for that one, meaning making the drums build up will be easy and sound great.
