Hi all

I recently updated BIAB for Windows to 832 and now it wont either play the song or or it will generate and not play or it will stop playing the song half way through. . . .I have the sound card set to ASIO. . .using a Beringher UMC404hd external sound card. . . when i reverted back to 829 where there was no problem it now takes forever to load. . . there seems to be also a lot of unusual clicks pops and scratchy noises too. . . . I also installed a laptop with i clean version of Windows 7 and BIAB 2021 then did the update and it does the same thing. . . .all my other music software is working fine. . .

looking forward to any reply

Two things to try:

1: Update to the latest build (835) from this PG Music Web Page

2: Reset to Factory Defaults (Options drop-down menu), then setup your MIDI / Audio Driver again, perhaps try starting with MME.

I have build 835 and have been having intermittent static noises, regardless of audio driver. I use a Steinberg ur22 interface.

lostrider and Bunyip
the only way people can help you as well as pg support is to post pics of your various settings.
these pics are very important. as follows...
(otherwise any tech help is a guessing game.)
1.
.pics of your asio sound device control panel audio settings. bit depths and sampling rates. and buffers.
eg ur 22 has its own small control panel.
.pics of your biab audio and midi driver settings.
.pics of any other music daw settings you use bit depths/sampling rates.
identify any other daw multitrack software you use and its settings. this also helps diagnose.
because if a piece of music software works this is a clue.
.pics of your win recording and playback bit depths and sampling rates

as a DEFAULT APPROACH try setting EVERYTHING TO 44.1/16 and if still "problems" test out different buffer settings.
2.
if your pc hasnt been optimised for recording work get a proper qualified pc tech to optimise it after he reads the following links.
https://audient.com/tutorial/optimise-your-windows-pc-for-audio/
https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/207355205-Optimising-your-PC-for-Audio-on-Windows-10

ps i highly recommend useing ssd's and a processor rated
10000 plus on cpubenchmark.net eg i5 8400 level or above.
plus plenty of ram.

Yes, we need more info especially about your audio settings.

I’m assuming the phrase ‘spitting chips’ is Australian for being unhappy?
Posted By: AudioTrack Re: BAND IN A BOX. . . .SPITTING CHIPS - 07/05/21 11:02 AM
Yes, Spitting Chips is apparently slang to be loudly or vehemently angry. Primarily used more often in Australia, it seems, although that came as a surprise to me, too.
We suggest first installing build 835, as VideoTrack previously posted.

Garbled or stuttering playback could be a system resource issue. You may be able to completely fix the problem by turning off accelerated RealTracks generation. This is done in the RealTracks Settings dialog (Control+click on the RealTracks toolbar button and uncheck "Speed up generation of RealTracks". If your playback is only "garbled" during the first few bars, that is an indication that this will fix it. The downside is that RealTracks will now take longer to generate, so you might instead troubleshoot the source of the problem:

Close other programs running on your computer. Your computer loads a number of programs automatically when it boots up. One useful test you can do is to use the system configuration utility to do a selective startup. To do this, go to the Start menu and type msconfig in the search field (if you happen to still be Windows XP go to Start | Run instead). Choose Selective Startup, uncheck startup items, Apply, and reboot. Then run Band-in-a-Box and see if it is any different.

Some anti-virus programs are notorious for causing these types of problems. See if it improves if you disconnect your computer from the internet and disable your anti-virus software.

Great advice by Chantelle above.

If that doesn’t do it, use Latency Monitor to see what else may be interrupting digital audio. I know you said an earlier build worked, but each build adds new features and perhaps just pushed you over the edge of what your computer can handle. Also have you tried raising your ASIO buffers?

thanks everyone. . .

I appreciate all your comments

this system is custom built for recording and music production. . . I actually am a computer tech
and this has rattled me big time. . . so i can hazard a guess that since Build 829. . .BIAB is no longer
backward compatible with my system

Windows 7 gb
32gb Ram
Intel I5 processor
2 x 2tb HDD
Beringher UM404HD external soundcard or
Beringher UM202HD external Soundcard

The laptop
is running windows 7 pro and BIAB only (nothing else installed)
2tb ssd
16GB Ram
Beringher UM404HD external soundcard or
Beringher UM202HD external Soundcard

A fresh system install both windows and BIAB. . . .
Again I took the build from 829 to 833 and the same thing happened
I installed 835 on both and no fix

So 2 totally different computers played up once I changed the build.
It looks like I may have to re-install both computers back to build 829.
I know architecture changes and the like but you shouldn't need to replace a computer because
of some small glitch. . .

I have been running BIAB since 2000 and never had any problems
I will try different latencies and buffer settings.

I run 44KHZ/ 16 bit all the time anyways

hey chantelle thx for that advice but already been there done that lol

maybe its in the build updates that has changed . . . I dont know but

I love using band in a box and want to keep using it

But if it comes to having to do a hardware upgrade to use it then BIAB is becoming too expensive to use :((

I would welcome any help i can get

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE

JOHN

John.(lostrider). moi ..ex tech.
g'day mate.
as your a tech you know how the daw forensics troubleshooting game is played.
ie "process of elimination". tis only way.
so...
1. have you run the resplendence latency monitor utility yet ?
2. are these machines on the net ? with avirus enabled ? if so take off net..disable av. something is obviously choking biab i would hazard a guess.
3. heres a major clue..run realband action>>test audio performance...
how many traks capability reported ? if low thats a clue.
4. a picture is worth a thousand words ...thus...PLEASE POST THE REQUESTED PICS UP THREAD ; AND post a pic of active tasks/processes in win task manager.
note from what ive heard on these forums behr asio interfaces seem to work well with pg products.
5. have you done the optimisations i posted includeing checking your usb/power settings ? there was a case recently on here where a power setting was an issue if i remember.
6. what model processors ? eg i5 what ? and what is their rateing on cpu benchmark.net.
i recommend a min of 5000 and preferably 10000 eg i5 8400 level.
7. are the biab rt's running off an external usb drive ? there might be contention with the behr interface also running over usb. see what i mean ?
OR do you have the biab rt's etc running off internal same drive as win resides on ? once again possible contention.
WHERE DO THE BIAB FILES RESIDE ?
aint tech fun ? lol.
gotta ELIMINATE ONE STEP AT A TIME.

OM...daw holmes..lol

I changed the buffer on my interface from 512 to 1024 and so far that has resolved things.
Posted By: Matt Finley Re: BAND IN A BOX. . . .SPITTING CHIPS - 07/08/21 08:47 AM
Good.

If you record, you may want to lower it back down. It would have less latency. Then set it back up for playback. Experiment.
Another thing is to try changing processor scheduling to 'background services' (and other performance settings): Right-click on My Computer and select Properties, then click on the Advanced tab (or click 'Advanced System Settings' on Vista and higher).

Here’s some other things you can try:

Click on the Settings button in the Performance section, and select 'Adjust for best performance'. Your operating system will not look as pretty, but will be faster.
Try setting Processor Scheduling to 'Background services' rather than 'Programs'.
You might get better sequencing if you set Memory Usage to 'System cache'.
The previous two items might be most noticeable if you have a specific problem you are trying to fix. If toggling those settings doesn't help anything, or makes matters worse, toggle them back. However, most people should get at least as good or better performance with 'Background services'.

Another thing that some people find helps is to click the [Change] button in the Virtual Memory section, and select 'Custom size' rather than 'System Managed Size'. System managed is the safest setting, so most people will probably want to leave it there. However if you do set it to Custom, try setting the Initial Size to the size of your RAM (for example 6GB) and the Maximum size to twice the size of your RAM.

Hi Daw

Yes the Beringher gear does go well with band in a box,

Up until I did the 833 update on both laptop and PC.

What I have been trying to say is that 2 totally different Computers have the same glitch
and has only started doing this since Build 833 and i will retry a factory reset again but
I will the 2 beringer units are both brad new only difference is one is a 2 Channel and the other is a 4 channel. I have the latest Dehringer drivers installed too. i have disabled both onboard soundcards too. .

Will just see what happens. . . .

thx John

Have you tried build 835 as well? https://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#835

Yes Chantelle. . . .I have tried 835 too . . . .at my wits end with it. . .If I dont upgrade I cant use the new XPRO and Xtrastyles Pak 11 if i am correct. . .
Posted By: Lostrider04 Re: BAND IN A BOX. . . .SPITTING CHIPS - 07/11/21 07:41 AM
Ok folks. . .

I seem to have resolved the problem on the PC. . .

I actually used the latency control for the first time ever (236ms now)

Installed Windows 10 Drivers for the Behringer UMC202HD/UMC404HD. Surprise they work with
Windows 7

Now to do the Laptop

BTW Thanks everyone for your assistance..

It's good to hear that you've got it working now! The XPro Styles and Xtra Styles requires build 835 and higher to show properly in the Style Picker. Please note that a new build was recently posted, which is build 838. It can be downloaded and installed from here: https://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#838

Ah, W7....I love it almost as much as XP.
Interesting that the problems in this thread are in Australia...50Hz? Joking.
I'm not up to date with the builds for 21 as my machine is offline & downstairs.
I suppose I'd better update BUT now I'm worried will - the Oz Hoodoo do for me too?
