Specifically regarding the reverb, see screenshot.

I need to know if my understanding of activating this entry is correct, in that doing so will activate BBox's own built-in reverb engine effect, as opposed to whatever reverb engine the sound source may or may not include if left unchecked? Or is activating this thing only going to assure a level of the reverb being applied, akin to a sort of "Midi Learn" fashion?

Example: The Sforzando program that runs sfz sound sources has a built-in reverb engine, one which even comes with several pre-configurations (Room, Hall etc), but so does BBox - Which one is going to be actually applied to the sound if I check this setting?

Eddie,

GREAT question. I hope someone from PG Music responds as I'd like to learn the true meaning.

That said, I thought you use Band-in-a-Box for Macintosh. This is the Band-in-a-Box for Windows FAQ section that PG Music uses to post answers to frequently asked sales and support questions. You may want to post the question in another forum section where it will receive more views and have a better chance of receiving a response.
Which I already did, in the Mac faq section, only to realise afterwards that this (for a change, heh? wink ) isn't a platform-specific issue, since this is very likely to work exactly the same way on either end. So I made a carbon copy in here too, just to increase my chances of getting to the bottom of this.
And in case anyone else wondered and needed to know for sure, I now have a confirmed answer from PG themselves,:
