PG Music released an optional 6.5 GB download of demo audio Friday, January 23, 2015. The download is available ++ HERE ++ . I haven't seen the download announced anywhere else in the forum.

Per the download page: "This is an entirely optional zip download. It is mainly to benefit customers who use Band-in-a-Box on an offline computer (e.g. a studio computer that isn't connected to the internet).

With some of the style demo functions (for example, double-clicking on a style in the StylePicker), Band-in-a-Box will search online if it doesn't find the demo on your local hard disk. There are a few reasons why you might not have a particular demo on your local disk; perhaps you don't own that style but still want to audition it, or maybe you ordered a download-only copy of the program.

We have provided two ways you can get the files, you can either download the full 6.5 GB set of demo files as a single zip, or you can download the smaller separate zip below.

How to Install the Style Demos:

The zip file has two folders: "Style Demos Audio" and "RealDrums Demos Audio". Simply unzip the file and copy/merge those two folders INTO your RealTracks\Data folder. So for example if you kept the default install location for Band-in-a-Box you will have these two folders, each with a bunch of WMA files in it:

C:\bb\RealTracks\Data\Style Demos Audio
C:\bb\RealTracks\Data\RealDrums Demos Audio"

Question from the bozos-party:

Do we already HAVE these demos if we have upgraded regularly and have all styles or are these new and come "on top"? I have not understood the point from the PG explanations...

Bernard,

I think what the original post means is that if your computer is connected to the internet, it just automatically downloads the demo.

If your computer does not connect to the internet normally, you can download all the demos and copy to the computer not on the internet.

Ok, sslechta and thanks for the info...
Basically, I must have all these demos already on my computer.

When I double click on a style, I hear a demo coming from the internet, but once I want to hear it complete and click on "demo-song", I have it dowloaded (from my computer). So I expect I do not need to load down all these demos if I already have them...

My question was more: are there any demos to be downloaded with these zips which I do not have...

I believe the demos are short files, to show you what the style is like. I'm not sure that they are downloaded, when you preview them.. Strictly speaking they are not necessary, just a nice way of showing you what it might sound like.. It does not play your song.. just an example.

Using this feature forces BIAB to 'phone home' every time you audition a style.. It's just as easy to hit the play b button at the bottom of the box and hear what it is going to do with your song.. .

If they are downloaded, they could take up space on your drive... Luckily BIAB does not force us to run BIAB off the system drive. More users are getting small SSD for system drives and slower much larger drives for libraries, songs. etc.. The problem is SSD are so expensive, people are trying to get by with 120 gig or 250.gb for the system, so it runs fast.. Unfortunately with Mac, they force you to have a lot of files on the system drive to operate the application.

I am forever searching for data to move or toss off system drive to keep it running smoothly.. there is a program called 'sumbolic linker'. Which makes the system drive think data is on the OS X drive, while in reality, it is on a much larger drive somewhere else.. This is all on a Mac, I'm talking about..It's a pain cause the system drive needs about 25% of empty space to run smoothly.. A one Gig SSD drive is about $800 = Way too expensive..

Don't know how a regular PC deals with this. But kudos to PG music for making the BIAB portable, so it does not have to be installed on System drive to work.. Now if only a lot of other manufactores would do this..

Jim, I hate to trouble you with this question, but since you knew where the RealTracks and RealDrums audio demos are stored on a Windows machine I was hoping you might know where they need to be placed on a Macintosh.

Thanks!

Hello Amadeus and welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, I do not know where audio demos are stored on the Macintosh. PG Music support can likely provide the answer and is available by telephone, chat or e-mail. You can click on the "Support" tab at the top of any of the PG Music web pages to see how to use each option.
