I've imported a MIDI melody into BIAB, put chords to it, assigned a style, imported to Real Band. Why won't the MIDI change to anything but piano?

If you look at the track in the Band-in-a-Box midi event viewer, does the track have a piano patch event? If not then the patch assignment might be embedded in the file header. If the track assignment is in the file header I don't know of a way to change it.

HI

When in Realband track view, right click on the midi track you want to re voice.
From the pop up select “Patch Select Dialog” and chose your patch.

I assume you have some sort of gm synth available as the synth for the track
If only the coyote wave table as the default dxi /vsti
But it doesn't mater what synth you use on that track the “Patch Select Dialog” will offer your available patches.

You could also try setting the patch you want in BIAB save the file .
then open in Realband it should come in with the correct voice.
assuming you use a midi style the style tracks should also come in correctly voiced.

Have fun
Mike
