When I try to add Zenology to RealBand, I can see the Roland folders in C:/Program Files/Common Files/VST3/Roland, but there's no DLL. There IS a .VST3 file in there, but RealBand doesn't recognize it.
If there's no corresponding DLL file for the plugin, how on earth do I add it to RealBand? I have Ableton Lite bundled with my Arturia MiniLab, but would prefer to stick with one DAW at a time.
RealBand does not recognize VST3. RealBand does recognize DX and VST2.
Thanks, that helps.
In searching for the issue, there were mentions of the 32-bit versions of BB and RB not supporting VST plugins well.
I'm using the 64-bit 2021 versions of both, which I should have specified in my original post, so I guess the only difference in VST support is that the 64-bit version doesn't require an additional driver.
Full support of VST instruments would be wonderful. There are a lot of cool ones out there for vintage synths among other things.
Steinberg released the original VST3 specification in 2008. The specification is now up to version 3.6. It is difficult for programmers and developers to implement a constantly moving target and that is what VST3 has been since it was released.
Because of this some programs do not accept VST3 and many developers release VST2 as well as VST3. Roland may be using some feature that only VST3 offers. Otherwise I can not think of any reason they wouldn't release both VST2 and VST3 versions of Zenology.
if there is a vst2 plugin dll it might have gone to another folder
try............
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vstplugins
or............:
C:\Program Files\Vstplugins\ or else..............
C:\Vstplugins
Look at the folder Program files (x86)\ and its subfolders, too
The Roland Zenology website indicates that it only comes in VSTi 3.6 (64 bit), AU, and AAX formats (not VST2).
Thanks all for the helpful and detailed responses. I'm completely new to BiaB and RB, but I feel like I have a better grasp of its possibilities.
Very cool concept and execution. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this.
i've put in a wish list request that RB recognises vst3 plugins but i won't hold my breath.
welcome to the forum and if we can help please post a request. i've been using BIAB for years and RB for a couple of years and i still get stuck. usually with RB things are simple so if you get a problem just ask.
and yes, it is a lot of fun!
