RealBand 2015 automatically sets the location for SEQ file backups to c:\RealBand\RBBACKUP folder. (See page 129 of 2015 RealBand User's Manual)

I would like for the backup location to be user defined on the (Control + F5) or "Options > Preferences ... > 3-Files" page where the other back up choices are presented.

Some users have small primary drives (think older computer or solid state drive) and need to keep the primary drive as clean and uncluttered as possible.

If they don't get around to doing it for a while, maybe you can use a Symbolic Link for now ?

With many Windows users with SSD or small primary drives updating to 2016 perhaps it's time to bring this wishlist request to the forefront again.

It doesn't take many backups to fill up a small primary drive.
Isn't RBBACkUP currently on the drive where RealBand is installed?

I know that I didn't change anything for years and my backup path is E:\RealBand\RBBackup

I see the value of a user defined destination. (Just as the location for Audio Temp files can be set.)

2016 RealBand User Manual page 115:
Quote:
Auto-Backup of .SEQ Files When you save a file, RealBand saves a backup of the file in a c:\RealBand\RBBACKUP folder.
However, the manual disputes itself as on page 146 it says the following:
Quote:
When you save a file, RealBand now saves a backup of the file in a c:\RealBand\RBBACKUP folder. ... For songs saved into the same hard drive where RealBand is installed, the backups are placed into an RBBACKUP subfolder of the RealBand folder. For songs that are saved to a different hard drive, the backups are placed in an RBBACKUP folder which is off of the root (e.g. D:\RBBACKUP)
The same information is repeated multiple times throughout the 2016 user manual.

As you can see, where backup files are placed depends on both RealBand defaults and file preference settings.

I believe it would just be much easier to not only let the user decide if RealBand will create backups but to allow the user to decide where backups will be stored.

For What It's Worth, I have RealBand installed to my computer's secondary drive but RealBand places the backup files on my primary drive.

I'm guessing that even though Realband itself is installed on the secondary drive, you are saving the seq files to the primary drive.

Once you save to a different drive than RB is running from, RB will create a RBBackup folder on that drive.
I recorded some narrations at work and was prudent and saved a second copy to the NAS and promptly got reminded the next day about policies concerning creating new folders in the root of that drive (I forgot to delete RBBackup after the session like I normally do).

As for deciding if you want backups; that is set in the Prefs area .. how many backups of a given song, what to do with them when there becomes too many, etc.

I too would like the ability to decide where the backups go, but once you plug an external drive into a new/different computer, the designated destination may no longer exist, making this a complicated decision from the programmers point of view.
