I find the more I save a song the better the stability-- The song becomes increasingly fragmented which is good.

However, I don't understand why you want your tracks fragmented. Surely you mean the reverse?

When a file is fragmented it demands far more CPU power and search to be able to play it. This may be your problem elsewhere too. Try using a good DE-fragmenter and see the difference for yourself
