The intro 4 bars of my song should be drums only, however...after playing the lead in there is a piano chord on the downbeat followed by the drums only for the intro 4 bars .

How should this be setup so that there is no piano chord on the downbeat just drums ? and why is there a piano chord on that downbeat ?

The problem is that your first chord is a "held chord" (3 dots). You want a "rest chord" except for the drums (1 dot).

Gm7.d means to rest all instruments except the drums
Gm7..d means to play a shot (hit) of all instruments, but the drums keep playing
Gm7...d means to hold the chord, but the drums play on through
