Band in the Box does not recognize a m7(b13) as a chord. What chord can I use inplace of the m7b13 that would act as m7b13?

min7#5 ?

w, read up from the bottom (root) and use the notes with the row of light green boxes under the column for Cm7(b13).

C, Eb, G, Bb, Ab

The screen shot adds a natural 9, the D, which would be implied.

Cm7(#5) is the same chord as Cm7(b13) but without the D, and voiced with the G# (enharmonically, Ab) in the lower register.

Hi Islansoul, smile

In musical theory, all modes Aeolian, Locrian and Phrygian have a 6b and not a 5 #, since they already have a perfect 5th. so, a fortiori, a b13. But, no b13 for the Dorian mode ...
We can hear this beautiful chord Am b13, on the first 8 of the theme: "Ralph's piano Waltz" by John Abercrombie.

And to answer your question, Biab has a problem, or rather a defect, or better a gap, he favors in this case the # 5 to the b6. The new "chord theory" function of "chord builder" is very explicit on this subject. And your question reminds that it is still impossible to write Cb and Fb ... with my Favorite Software, maybe with the 2018 MAC version ... but, one day surely! I spend too good times with Band in a box, for to continue to trust them !!
Finally, I found this list of chords, which dates from 2015,

Thank you for your question Islansoul,

Interesting that Cm7#5 is not on that list, but it works.

Hi Matt, smile
we can write directly any minor chord 7 # 5 ... but not minor 7 b6!

# 5 or b6 that is the question ...

Thank you for all your answers, and your participation in this forum

A possible work-around could be; Ab2/C

There is a Chord Picker Tool with all the chords in including the m7#5, just need to make up one for Mac.
