Hi folks,

I have windows 7 32 bit and have an external 1 TB Seagate drive hooked up by usb permanently to computer. I use the Seagate for backup of windows and other programs.

I have this setup for a number of years now and always windows 7 was very slow to shutdown.

The Seagate went wrong once (clicking sounds) but was replaced by Seagate.

I have discovered that disconnecting the Seagate will let the computer shutdown normally, seems to be a known problem with Seagate drives, something to do with sleep/awake function or other.

So I only hook the Seagate up now when I need to.

Just wondering if you have an external drive connected permanently and its not affecting windows 7 shutdown, as I am in the lookout for another drive?

Thanks a lot

Hook this to your router:

Can't beat it 2TB @ $119 or 3TB @ $135

Thanks a lot for that Robb, definitely one to have a look at.

The answer is Yes. I always remove all external devices from the system tray (lower right corner) before shutting down.
Interesting. I've not noticed this when leaving PGMusic BiaB external drives attached.
Far as I can tell it's actually a Toshiba 150 gig attached to this machine.

Next question would be Win7 professional, or (?)
I always figured it is Windoze itself that slows down just about everything...
