if you would like to have windows media player play midi files through a registered midi device other than the MS GS Software Wavetable Synth

follow the instructions here (fixed link)

http://pghboemike.wordpress.com/2014/04/01/windows-7-default-midi-device-alternative/

since this involves a registry edit the usual caveats apply backup your registry or at least the keys to be changed before proceeding

Mike, would you check that link again please. Says that you need a user name and password to enter.

might be a cookie problem

while there is more info there here's a link to get the idea
http://pcaudiohelp.com/how-to-change-the-default-midi-device-in-vista-and-window-7/
Will this do the trick for you:

It is suppose to work on Vista and Win 7.
Tried your link again today....worked perfect...weird. Thanks this is a great tip. Now I can use my Yammy and Roland GM rack sets rather than the MS defaults.
