Hi,
Just in case anyone may be interested Magix are offering the full Samplitude Pro X3 Suite with SoundForge and Spectralayers with Melodyne Essential for $149.
Maybe Cakewalk Sonar users could find it useful now Cakewalk is closing.
I have no affiliation with Magix.

Yep, I got that also.

Magix is also the company that bought up Acid Pro, Vegas, and SoundForge (which was actually one of the very first audio editors I used way, way back). Hmmm, maybe they might be eyeing the Cakewalk line to add to their audio offerings repertoire. Who knows?
Posted By: jazzmammal Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/04/17 03:41 AM
Brian, I saw this in the Cakewalk forum but I thank you for posting this anyway. It's probably the best deal of this season and I bought it this morning. I posted it on the Keyboard Corner forum and a group over there snatched it up as well. Seriously this is a $1,400 package for $149. Damn.

I don't know what to think of this. Is business so bad that this is their final attempt for some cash flow before they go under or what? After what happened to Cakewalk anything's possible.

Hi,

The deal certainly is one of the better ones this year, ends tomorrow 6th December depending what side of the world you live. smile
Overloud TH3 have also been very generous for Cakewalk Sonar owners giving new serial numbers (on proof of purchase) so that the TH3 works as a standalone and in other DAWS.

There is a deal running for the UK Magix website for £114, but I think that is for an upgrade only.

The other one seems much better.

Think I will pass on it though, as I don't do enough recording to justify buying another DAW, I think anyways its a bit of a marketing hype costing well over $1000 as web search takes up the web price at least half that.

I did download and install the trial, nice and colourful looking GUI, easy to see with these tired old eyes, but for the moment I think I will stay with Cubase and Cakewalk home studio to play around with, as I can find my way around the basics on Cubase and Home studio looks ok as well.

Best of luck to everyone who has bought and will buy it at this knockdown price.

FYI since it was "cheap" I jumped on it

with a 20mbps DSL connection it took roughly 11+ hours to download the included Independence Pro Sampler content (think of it as their version Kontankt, as Samplitude Pro add-in). and FYI they Independence Pro ad says 70 GB's of content but its more like 64.9 GB's

The whole "suite of suites" registration is weird: Samplitude and SpectraLayers get registered at one Magix site while Soundforge gets register at ANOTHER Magix site (it's a old Sony orphan that's probably why)

some random notes

- This version of Independence Pro, since included as part of Samplitude, ONLY works in Samplitude. The VSTi will not work in any other host or DAW (already tried it, and tried a few hacks - "no joy")

- The included Izotope Mastering & Repair Suite is part of the Soundforge package so you won't see it pop-up in Samplitude.

- Back to independence pro: during Ind. Pro content installation (which can be run manually look for the content installer exe) it asks where to place content - I told it another drive and path but it seemed to ignore that and installed it ALL in to "C:\Program Files (x86)\MAGIX\Independence Libraries"

- when you download the Samplitude Pro X3 Suite, SpectraLayers Pro 4 (PC & MAC), SOUND FORGE Pro 11 installers link in the email they send (that has all the serial numbers) they in-turn DOWNLOAD a lot of other installers totaling 32 files at just over 10GB's and that's all placed in:

"C:\Users\username\Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager"

Have Fun

I left my computer doing the install this morning and will pick back up when I get home from work.

For the Sound Samples, it picked up a previous location where I had stored Magix content and greyed it out (Native Instruments does that also after initial install).

Looking forward to playing with it some this weekend.

For anyone interested in the Independence Sound Library that comes with Samplitude (70GB of content, nee, per Larry, 64.9GB of content). smile

Review of Independence Pro
Posted By: Larry Kehl Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/08/17 02:55 PM
First I request that John, or anyone else who has successfully completed the Independence Pro CONTENT download to verify how many *.ytif files they end up with

Mine only go from 1 to 76 ,e.g., “Independence Content Image File 01.ytif,” up to number 76.

But if you only have 76 and since John publicly questioned my “math”hood grin re: “content” then if content is installed to default location:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\MAGIX\Independence Libraries\Independence Pro"

Within that folder are one file and two folders:

---The file is "library.xml" for a total of ....1KB (noise level size file, 1KB)

---The first folder is "\image files" (contains actual compressed sound data libs called *.ytif's) these .ytif's are number 01 - 76 for a total of 64.4 GB . THIS IS THE BIGGEST “CHUNK” and admittedly again I may be missing a file or two (???) I have no way to verify, but the download ended normally without error, and when I re-run content installer there is a "repair?" option and it finds nothing missing or wrong so???

---The second folder is "\layers\" and under that a folder is one folder called" Independence Pro - Instruments" (I think this folder is the name I gave it but immaterial) and under that folder are 28 top level folders:

------ 01-25 of various instrument groups/types (01 Acoustic Drum Kits; 02 Electronic Drum Kits,... 25 YT Tune Model Instrumens) and three UNNUMBERED: "Yellow Tools Candy," "Yellow Tools Culture," and "Yell Tools Majestic."

-----Including those 28 folders and all subfolders there is a total of 219 folders, 3557 files, and 346 MB's of "content" except its not really "content" in the sense of SOUND these 3500+ files are *.ytil's are are the simply the instrument how to "structure" the sound from the *.ytif's but will call them content

So we are now at a grand total of: 64.4 GB's + 346 MB's or 64.65 GB's

So let’s now look for additional installed Independence Pro "stuff" (or in otherwords TRYING to show that the entirety of the Independence Pro INSTALL, including the installers, is ~70GB's)

There is "C:\Program Files (x86)\MAGIX\Independence" which contains Independence executables and miscellaneous files totaling 123 MB’s

Next “ C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MAGIX Services\Independence Libraries” with 191 files and 5 folders totaling 23.3 MB’s

Next “C:\Program Files\Common Files\MAGIX Services\Independence Libraries” with 177 files, 5 folders totaling 17.3 MB’s

Next “C:\Program Files (x86)\VST\MAGIX\Independence” 3 files, 1 folder totaling 174 MB’s

Next “C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugIns\MAGIX\Independence” 3 files, 1 folder totaling 174 MB’s

Next there are “C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Independence” and “C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Independence together have 811 files, 146 folders and is 410 MB’s

Next “C:\Users\Larry Kehl\Documents\MAGIX Projects\Independence” 0 files, 12 folders totaling 0 bytes (I haven’t created anything yet)

Total so far is 65.57 GB’s if we count the actual installer at 505 MBs = 66.08 (and I’m ROUNDING everything UP)

Now If look around at all the nooks and cranny’s like “C:\Users\Larry Kehl\AppData\Roaming” and “C:\Users\All Users\MAGIX\” and look for all the uninstall files, and a dozen or so like files I get something less than 1GB but I’ll round WAY up on these and call it 1 GB

Finally we have 66.08 + 1 = 67.08 so yea rounding this up gets you to (approx.) 70GBs’s but it’s not 70GB’s of sound CONTENT.

BUT AGAIN if I am missing some large .ytif’s (which is where I would likely be missing the majority of “content”) I’m unaware which .ytif’s I assume it would be

“Independence Content Image File 77.ytif” if that exists, and

“Independence Content Image File 78.ytif” again if that exists, and

… until I get a lot closer to 70GB

JOHN please tell me where I'm missing ~5 GBs'S
Posted By: jford Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/08/17 05:30 PM
Hi, Larry -

I wasn't questioning your math, I was just equally amused that it is advertised at 70GB when it's not (I guess it's really not an "everything" pack, or something like that smile )

Anyway, I started my download of the Independence library yesterday and it was still going this morning (my internet, while adequate, would be nice were it much faster). Anyway, I'll report back what I see this evening, as I expect it to done by the time I get home from work (unless it glitches).

I knew it would take awhile to download, as I also have the baby brother version that came with the 12GB library (purchased back in 2013).

Assuming it lets me install it on my desktop (in addition to the laptop that I'm currently installing to), I'm hoping I can just copy everything over and not have to download it all again (which NI forces you to do now with their new download manager).

I'm also presuming that all the .EXE files that it downloaded can be offloaded to an external USB where I keep all my application installation files (I have a portable 1.5TB almost full USB drive that has all my applications, license codes, site login information, a tracking spreadsheet that I created, etc for keeping my 3 computers up to date). That will save about 10GB on my computer hard drive.

I'm hoping to have it all installed by the end of the weekend and try everything. I did play a little with it before starting the Independence download and it seemed pretty responsive. I just have to learn the interface.

By the way, the reason they are .YTIF is that Magix bought Yellow Tools a number of years ago (hence the YT), rebranded the name from Yellow Tools (which is what it was the first time I tried it) as Independence, but kept the interface and the file formats.

You know that was all in fun right?

after that download I should have kicked myself - I/we could have bought the boxed version with NO SHIPPING charge at same price! I've got an email out to Magix to see what's what with the whole 70GB thing now we'll see if they respond
Posted By: musiclover Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/09/17 09:00 AM
You guys are now making me want to buy this software, the GUI seems easy enough to learn for simple things anyways Downloaded the trial.

Any of you managed or see a way to put the huge amount of content on a different drive as that would be a problem for me with a smaller SSD?

ah what is it that makes me want to collect more software?

I'm running the program from the C: drive, the Independence synth is on my D: drive (70GB), and the sample content is on my E: drive, so yes you can split things up.
Posted By: musiclover Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/09/17 06:38 PM
Thanks a lot John that is very useful info.

I have just discovered that Magix do a free version of Independence with a 2 GB sample Library,

http://www.magix.com/gb/free-download/independence-free-sampler-software/

I am going to give it a try. Maybe there is a way around with this that it might be possible to play the samples in a different DAW.

Unfortunately doesn't work!

John's right about content- I must of dorked up the "select path" and didn't hit enter or something at install time

but even at that I was able to MOVE the content to another drive and re-point Independence Pro to it (it just is not OBVIOUS that it stuck or "took" if issues let me know I can list folders to copy and how to re-point if needed

Now I'm still waiting for John to confirm if he has CLOSE to 70GB of actual content or more than 76 ytif's?

when you install Samplitude it will install Independence Pro and it will also download the Ind. Pro installer if you need to reinstall manually (find all those at:

C:\Users\username\Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager

but then you need to run the Independence Pro Content downloader/installer separately one of two ways:

1) open Samplitude, open the Demo that has Independence Pro content, or a blank track and add independence pro and when you open the VSTi it SHOULD ask yo u to get (download) the content

2) the EASIEST and FASTEST way (until you learn to navigate around in Samplitude) is look for the Ind. Pro content installer should be at

"C:\Program Files (x86)\VST\MAGIX\Independence\VSTPlugins64\independence.content.exe"

Good luck
Larry

PS: by now you know it will take a LOT of time do download it all!

EDIT

PPS before you spend time scratching head after setting an account in one MAGIX place but then the other stuff complains when you try to register - you need TWO MAGIX accounts at two places

The big reason I don't like Magix software. I had Samplutde / Music Maker / ProVid / and a few others, and they placed software all over my drives without asking, which I did not like at all!

Now, I LIKED the software, the Midi was super easy to use, and Independence has the best upright bass samples I have heard IMHO, and a few other things. But, for ME the software everywhere was the nail.

With that said, this is an outstanding price for it. The editing features at the clip level is outstanding!

Cakewalk had (has?) been doing that (putting crapola everywhere and redundantly making folders all over BOOT drive) since Sonar version (5 or 6?, I forget it was right at Win Vista) - that was when CW and I started drifting apart

I'll have to double check, Larry, but it seems that when I look at the Independence Pro folder it read (in Windows) 69 point something GB, so pretty close to 70 GB.

Also, if you want to install on a second machine, just copy the downloaded Independence content over to the other machine, then run the installer and select the 3rd option (which is the content is already on your hard drive).

Also, it looks like you can only authorize Spectralayers on one machine.

I'm also having problems getting SoundForge Pro to run on my Windows 7 machine, but I suspect it's getting confused initializing the sound cards, so I'll do some more troubleshooting (removing the FastTrack Pro and letting it find the built-in sound, then adding FastTrack Pro back in after configuring for the internal card).

Otherwise, everything does seem to work, but I need to learn it. And I need to see if I can specify multiple VST folders, or if I have to move everything to my standard location. I'll report back on that.

One thing I did do was move all the downloaded EXE's to my second machine and installed using them (rather than starting with the program downloader) and everything installed just fine, so I didn't have to wait for that 30GB to download again.
Posted By: Larry Kehl Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/11/17 02:35 PM
John

I've installed, run, and registered all three programs (SAM, SF, and, Spectra) on BOTH Win 10 and Win 7 no issues. And like I said elsewhere, I already know where I dorked up - so moving the large sample folder around is easy

BUT can you PLEASE tell me how many ytif's is it MORE than 76? and how many more

and can you report The TOTAL size your Ind. Pro sample folder (since I doubt you installed to C)

but it WOULD have been this folder for a default install

"C:\Program Files (x86)\MAGIX\Independence Pro\"

EDIT

Homer says "DOH!" (look at the RIGHT "number" and not be LAZY like me and look at ONLY the FIRST number)

Computer reports 64.8 GB but that is really 64.8*(1024)**3 bytes OR 69,578,470,195.+ a hair BYTES

and I have "Size 64.8GB (69,608,811,640)"
and "Size on disk 64.8 GB (69,616,664,576 bytes)"

SO I suspect you have 76 ytif's no more no less (all the other files are noise)

NEVER MIND!

Larry

Larry, everybody I know (who also happens to be 60 to 70 years old) all say the older I get, the busier I get. No rest for the wicked and all that rot.

I haven't figured out yet if that's because we're really that busy or we've just lost the ability to multitask...all I know is I continually feel like the proverbial one-armed paperhanger and it's sooo easy to miss highly technical details like we're talking about now. Gotta slow down a bit and pay attention...but, but I'm running out for a doctors appointment, gotta return my daughters call, gotta prepare for the Christmas party, gotta leak in the right front tire, gottadothis, gottadothat...

And of course the most important thing: Gotta have some fun on this forum with our new toys. Yay!

Did you have fun waiting for Independence Pro download? LOL

FWIW: it seems you can interrupt and it will pick back up - however, I DID NOT test this, but a newbie (like us) on the MAGIX forum reported that he had to stop it and later he picked it backup where he was so.... - buyer beware I guess

Larry
Posted By: jford Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/11/17 06:44 PM
I did test starting and stopping the download (not by choice - I came in to check on the status and it reported failure - so you just click on "keep what you've got" and start the utility again), and it worked. With my internet, it took a good couple of days to download everything. I then just copied those files over to my other machine and selected the "I have the files" option there. That took just a couple of minutes.
Posted By: jford Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/12/17 11:28 AM
Larry -

A couple of things. The Independence Library does report 64.8GB, but as you said, that's 69 billion bytes, so I suspect that's where the 70GB came from. Also, there are only 76 files.

One nugget I found was when you download all the links you were provided, even though the Samplitude installer also installs SoundForge, if you launch the separate Soundforge installer, it will also get you a copy of Magix Music Maker (a low end DAW) as a little bonus. You might have missed it if you just did the Samplitude install and thought you didn't need to launch Soundforge because it was already installed.

Also, I did get Soundforge to run properly by setting it to run in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode.

Getting close to having it as I want it and then can start working with it.
Posted By: Larry Kehl Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/12/17 02:25 PM
Good to know about the separate Soundforge install (I already had a copy of that program a few years ago - I FORGET how or why so no need to re-get it)

As to the installers, there about 1GB of installers downloaded from the email links after they are run (and you already found those). I KEPT those (backed up) so I never have to re-download those, as well as the ~70 GB (yes 70 - LOL) of the ind. pro \images and \layers content folders, - that 70 GB is the PITA

I'm wonder why you have to run Sonundforge in XP mode? I'm running in whatever the default was/is (I need to reboot into 7 to see)

I'm bouncing back and forth between FL12, Studio One Pro and now Samplitude plus all the included goodies so am not really focused on details yet in the later

Larry
Posted By: jford Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/12/17 04:57 PM
Actually, when you download the additional content (all the Vita stuff), you end up with about 10GB of download, in addition to the 70GB. All is backed upon on "installation USB drive" (I have all my installation files, nicely categorized, for all my software on an almost full 1.5TB USB drive, backed up to another one, of course, along with a spreadsheet that tracks versions, serial numbers, installation notes, site and forum logins, etc.). It's been a lifesaver the couple of times I've had to do a clean install.
Posted By: Larry Kehl Re: Samplitude Pro X3 Suite - 12/12/17 06:19 PM
Yea I meant to type "10" GB not "1" for the installers

And I also keep EVERYTHING (triple) redundantly backup (images), or copied, or both - and one full copy of all files and images is maintained by me off-site (out of house) and I do not mean in the idiotic cloud.

You HAVE ZERO control over availability, reliability, or accessibility of anything you put on ANY cloud, unless you physically WORK at, and have physical access to, the various cloud server farm locations.

I'm a (sort of semi-retired) senior scientific analyst (and you can't spell the last word without the first four letters grin !)
