I ran the Focusrite configuration tool and it was indeed at 24 bit 48000. I changed it to 44,100 and loaded a song up. And I got that error again, BUT... the problem was that the song file was created downstairs before I realized the bit rate default on that sound card was 24 bit 48000. I just resampled and that is now good.

THEN, I went to a blank file to try and generate a new song upstairs because I haven't done that in a while. Every time I hit the style picker, BIAB launched itself, and due to that "too many installations" problem I locked up and had to quit through task manager. Is BIAB supposed to launch in the background like that? I never noticed that before, probably because there was never a license issue.

Okay, THEN I decided to play with the MIDI some. Nightmare. But it's dinner time and I will mess with that more tomorrow. Short story is that when I played the keyboard I saw the MIDI activity light flash on the interface but I was not playing sounds form the virtual synth I had selected (Cakewalk TSS-1). Everything was on channel 1, when I played the on screen keyboard with my mouse it made sound from the keyboard that was attached, but not from the virtual synth on the screen. I haven't played with MIDI in RB for like 4 years so I have to remember stuff.

That license issue will fix itself when I buy 2018 so I'm not all that worried about that.

D I need to uninstall the old when I install the new?
No. Install the new right over the old; that way you won't accidentally lose any extra styles or bonus material.
Jim, do you know if the new one will include refreshing a serial number, because after replacing computers and such mine has been installed too many times and the key is invalid.
BIAB 2018 gives you a new activation number, good for three activations. BIAB 2017 gave you three with a different number. Is that what you are asking?
Yes, Matt. I am still on 2016. It was installed on a computer that didn't have enough horsepower to also run Pro Tools, so I bought the i7, and I had to reinstall when I bought the new one. That's 2. Then I also installed it on my downstairs computer. That's 3. After that, the hard drive in the new one had a boot sector issue. Dell replaced the hard drive, but when I installed again, that was #4, and the BIAB side will not run because of to many installs on the serial numbner. Pro Tools is fine because it validates with the iLok rather than just the serial number. Today was the first time since that last install (#4) that I tried to write a new song upstairs on that computer. When I tried to select a style in RB, it for some reason tried to launch BIAB and failed because the serial number is invalid after that many installs. The whole thing locked up and I had to reboot. 3 times I tried. After 3 it was obviously just not going to work. Yet if I write the song downstairs, move it over my LAN to the upstairs, it runs just fine.
Hi Eddie

I think it would be wise to give PG a ring
I am not certain you can simply upgrade an unlicensed version of 2016
You may need to make it legal first
Or pay the price as a first time buyer not the upgrade price.
Just my thoughts
Mike
That was my thought too, Mike. I will call them.
Eddie,

Yes. Each new edition gets three authorizations. The authorizations are maintained in a text file in the /bb directory. I have authorizations for 2016, 2017 and 2018 on this computer and authorizations for 2014, 2015 and 2016 on my older computer. I don't think editions before 2014 required authorizations.

Even though you'll be upgrading to 2018 soon it wouldn't hurt to contact PG Music support now and get what you have reauthorized. That way if you ever decide to "go back" you can revert back to an authorized edition.
I just emailed them Jim and I will likely just go with a new version anyway. $160 vs $300.... whatever. Just one more month of a credit card payment. And I'm right, right? LOL!!!

I couldn't even type that with a straight face!
