Howard Tate has passed away. I don't have all the details yet as it was just announced in the obits section this morning. He was soft spoken, kind, gentle and loved his wife with all his heart. I'm going to miss my visits with him. He was a fantastic person and musican. Heavenly Father has brought one of his beloved home to him today.
This is sad news indeed.
If you get chance...please let her know we loved him too, and will miss him.
Let her know she is in our prayers.
Yes, let her know for us, Russ.

Howard and I have a mutual friend here in calif. He was saddened by the news awhile back, and I will let him know of Howard's passing. Howard was highly spoken of by everyone that knew him, even those who hadn't seen him in years.

thanks russ,
i'm sure howard would be pleased to know how many friends he had on here and the steel guitar forums. he was rich with people who loved him. quite an accomplishment in itself for anyone to have achieved in one short lifetime. that says it all.
Aw no. Howard, you shall be missed. Condolences, hugs, and gentle songs to his family and friends.
He's gone on to play in the "great gig in the sky". The music will be a little sweeter up there tonight.
Pass my condolences to his family as well.

Well said, Bob. Can't add to that. I wish I could hear what Howard is playing today.
I miss him already.
Howard is someone I will never forget.
What a good guy!
In his last post, the one he said goodby to all of us, Howard hoped that we'd keep good memories of him. I sincerely hope he had the time and the strength to read all the replies that the forummembers posted. Then he would know that we all do keep those good memories of him and his music.
My condolences to his family and close friends.
i sincerely pray howard is makeing great music up in heaven.
my heartfelt prayers and condolences.
I've never met Howard personally but we've become close over the years, exchanging CDs and such. He was really one of the nicest people I knew.
We can rejoice in the fact that Howard is with his son now, whom he missed terribly.
Russ,
Of course, I didn't know Howard from other than here. We are all saddened by his passing. Please extend my condolences to his wife and family. I have to wonder, though, if he was as good as people say he was, how much better will he be as a steel player in his resurrected body?
Til we meet at the Return, Howard.
Gary
I received an email from Charlene Tate today informing me that Howard passed on the 27th. She told me how much he treasured our friendship even though we had never met face to face. Words can't describe how sad I am. The world simply isn't the same without Howard in it.
i got an email from charlene today too. she seems to be bearing up ok but i know the nights alone are very difficult for her yet. toucher (Rob) suggested we get together and present her with a plaque, perhaps from all the friends whose lives howard touched. i think charlene would really treasure that. i will be happy to contribute but i won't be able to organize it. perhaps pg music could get involved. peter?

I read that and I cried.
I'm just sorry I didn't reply to this sooner. I havn't been here much recently. RIP Howard.
Like many here, I didn't really know much about him, but one thing I will remember forever:
A few years back, a few of us submitted mp3 files for a collection of Christmas carols. I think Gary Curran hosted and moderated.
I submitted a rather odd and completely forgettable version, but fortunately for all of us Howard sent his steel rendition of Silent Night. I was stunned by the beauty of his rendition, and how it captured the essence of this age old carol.
I didn't have the good sense to keep a copy of it when I acquired my new computer, and I would greatly appreciate receiving it if anyone has it.
This is my very fond memory of Howard Tate.
His music lives on.
Glenn
I totally missed this post ...
My sincere condolonces to Howard's family and all those who loved him!
I am sure, he's making some wonderful music in Heaven!
Mike
