I think that the song has maintained airplay (plus play in commercials, movies, etc.) that everyone still knows it...so everyone still uses it. Kind of a self-perpetuating thing. Also the song just exudes rock-n--roll vibes and has an intensely catchy hook. Nothing quite like it has come since.
