Ozone 9

Watched the new features video on that page. Liking the new Low-End Focus and upgraded Match EQ module.....

I got a notice and again read the features. For my use a lot of the cool features that are track oriented would be of limited benefit as it appears that they would require Neutron or some of its modules to be on each track. I like Neutron a lot but I equally like Waves CLA series. FWIW.

Just over there reading about it now.

I don't think you need Neutron on each track, Bud, not from what I'm reading anyway. It says: "Correct and change instrument levels at the mastering stage without needing the original tracks".

Read that here: https://www.izotope.com/en/learn/rebalance-the-master-with-ozone-9.html

Pretty cool tech if that is the case!

Anyway, I'll probably bite the bullet and upgrade, I'm a sucker for new toys eek

P.S. Thanks for the heads up Steve! smile

NP sir. I had not upgraded my Neutron when it was released a few months ago either. I'll probably update both Neutron/Ozone Advanced.

Pretty pricey and no discount for those of us who bought Ozone 8 elements (...maybe because they recently gave it away for free! grin).

Need to correct that... there is a discount if you have a "paid" Ozone 8 elements.

But still... Generally, above my "no-brainer" budget restrictions. crazy

My Sweetwater card will get heavy..... Going for the "Music Production Suite 3" bundle since it has both Ozone/Neutron Advanced upgrades together for me. I've really been impressed with Izotope's product improvements over the last 5 years.

$149 to upgrade to Ozone 9 advanced for me until the end of October, not too bad IMHO. I'll definitely do it before the end of the month.

$125 from Audio Deluxe if you have a account setup there.

I’m sitting on the fence. I recently upgraded to the Music Production Suite 2.1. To upgrade the Music Production Suite seems over the top. Maybe from Ozone 8 Advanced to Ozone 9 Advanced but what real benefit would I get. Maybe the Tonal Balance bit might help more but what I have I just got worked out. When it comes to Vintage EQ or the Vintage Limiter that’s what I’ve been using for sometime now. Sometimes I think I upgrade not for need but because I feel I don’t want to be left behind (or is it a status thing). Most of what I have I don’t really use. Where to go from here?

I was really impressed with the demos I heard of the new vintage setting in the master assistant function, big improvement IMHO.

And that new "rebalance the master function" looks very cool too, very impressive demo. I have some old already mastered tracks here that could benefit from that (tracks that I no longer have the source files for so I can't remix).

Are there some amazing new algorithms that can sniff out say a mandolin or piano or guitar track, etc, i.e., actually recognizing the sonic characteristics of that instrument per se? And allowing it to be manipulated w/o affecting other instruments that share those characteristics? Otherwise wouldn’t it be only, perhaps, a more automated use of eq and multiband compression, etc.

IMHO code that allow you to, in effect, remix a mixed track (even in a limited manner) would be revolutionary. I’ve spent considerable time trying to improve tunes for which I no longer have the tracks. And the results have been marginal at best. I much look forward to seeing how all this shakes out.

There is definitely some AI happening, Bud. Currently it seems it can only isolate vocals, drums, and bass. But it seems to be able to do so without affecting other instruments living in the same frequency range.

Demo is impressive, check it out here: https://www.izotope.com/en/learn/rebalance-the-master-with-ozone-9.html

Yeah, I checked Sweetwater and the upgrade from 2.1 to 3 is $199. For the most part it is just the Ozone update you would be getting that's new. It appears that Neutron 2 was upgraded to 3 from 2.0 to 2.1 so I guess that wouldn't be updated for you. Just ask yourself if it's worth the $199 to stay up to date and enjoy the new features of Ozone. You won't be that far behind if you stay on 2.1. You might want to wait a year to see if they do a 3.1 for the next Neutron update then cut loose.

Here is a nice video that will demo everything from Sweetwater.

Ya, I am looking close at this - may be something I should think a bit harder about.

But, while we are all here, can I ask, what is with that color scheme in the Ozone 9? Is that gray on gray on gray? It just seems awful from a design perspective. Did they just give up on color? How many shades of gray are there? crazy

You may be thinking of the Cakewalk color scheme perfected by SONAR. Grey detail on darker grey background. Ha.

But Ozone 9 promo material looked more dark blue to me. Anyway, I ordered the upgrade. I’m intrigued by the new bass handling.

Ya, there is a little blue used amoungst the shades of gray.

Purchased version 9, upgrade from 8.

Complete waste of money. Have been unable to install, despite repeated emails back & forth w/ Izotope tech support. Hoping I can get a refund but I won't hold my breath. Very unimpressed with Izotope and their installer issues.
Posted By: Matt Finley Re: Ozone 9 - Officially Released Now - 10/07/19 12:25 PM
Roger, the download manager process they use is annoying, but I had success using the link in my confirmation email.
Posted By: Roger Brown Re: Ozone 9 - Officially Released Now - 10/07/19 12:32 PM
I used that as well....didn't work. I keep getting a message saying it was unable to create the directory. Ran my computer in safe mode, etc. Nothing has worked. Even their tech support seems stumped.
Posted By: BlueAttitude Re: Ozone 9 - Officially Released Now - 10/08/19 10:07 AM
Unable to create directory usually means a problem with permissions. What version of Windows are you running?
Posted By: KeithS Re: Ozone 9 - Officially Released Now - 10/08/19 07:51 PM
Roger, I agree that it appears to be a permissions issue. I can’t personally vouch for the procedure but take a look at this solution:

No still on Mojave
Posted By: Janice & Bud Re: Ozone 9 - Officially Released Now - 10/09/19 09:03 AM
This is a generic response but....

By and large my eight Mac years after leaving decades of Windows has been hassle free — nearly seamless; however the few issues I’ve had have been nearly all with permissions. I’d check the Izotope folders and insure that your “home name” has read/write for all of them. I have encountered apps that unbeknownst to me altered permissions in folders that did not “belong” to them.

I will agree with Bud on the folder permissions. Might try this:

Change permissions for files, folders, or disks on Mac
On your Mac, select a disk, folder, or file, then choose File > Get Info.
If the information in Sharing & Permissions isn't visible, click the disclosure triangle.
Click the lock icon to unlock it.
Enter an administrator name and password.

I have not had this problem myself on my Mac's and I have Ozone 8 advanced on mine but I am waiting a bit on version 9 because of Catalina coming out this month. I will install it on my PC for right now.
Posted By: Roger Brown Re: Ozone 9 - Officially Released Now - 10/09/19 01:07 PM
So for whatever reasons, it won't let me change the permissions....even as the administrator. I suspect that's the problem, but not being able to edit it to "read & write" is confounding. Looks as though somehow the "library" folder now has read & write only for "system" and it won't let me change it. This stuff gets over my head fairly quickly, any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Upgraded to Ozone9 Advanced and Neutron3 yesterday. Been an isotope user for years, and pretty well depend on it.

After opening the info dialog for the folder are you clicking on the “padlock” and entering your admin name and password?
Posted By: Roger Brown Re: Ozone 9 - Officially Released Now - 10/09/19 02:10 PM
Yes, I click on the padlock and enter my password. I get a message saying I don't have "permission" to make that change. And yes I'm logged in as administrator, the issue seems to be that only "system" has read & write privileges.

I was poking around looking for the best upgrade deal for Ozone 9 Advanced and pulled the trigger on a deal at JRRshop.com. They have a cross grade from ANY PAID IZOTOPE PRODUCT for $339.15. I had to read the details several times to make sure I was reading it correctly. For $339.15 you get the following in the Izotope Music Production Suite 3:

Ozone 9 Advance
Nectar 3
Neutron 3 Advanced
Vocal Synth 2
Rx 7 Standard
Insight 2
R4
Nimbus

That’s $2,442.00 worth of software for $339.00

JRRshop.com lists their price as $399.00 and you get a $59.85 discount once you put it you checkout cart.

I picked up Music Production Suite 3 as well. Enjoying it. I just had Ozone/Neutron before. I played with RX-7 a little bit and like it. Reminds me of my Adobe Audition days a little.

Somebody paying nearly $2500 for that would likely also walk into a car dealership and pay sticker price smile

Does the JRRshop.com Izotope Music Production Suite 3 upgrade also include the 12 month subscription to Groove3. (Both Izotope and Pluginboutique offer the upgrade with the Groove3 subscription)
