Oh, good. I've been meaning to disable Cortana.
I strangled her long ago.......
Been using O&O "Shutup" for a few years now and I am really pleased on how I was able to tweak quite a few things to #1 Make Windows a lot more private and #2 Stop quite a bit of the nu-necessary garbage taking place behind the scenes.
Best of all it is from a very reputable company and it is FREE.
And yes you can put Cortina in her place for good.

Thanks, I have an old computer almost 10 years old so disabling stuff can only help its performance.
It used to be that with Windows XP you were advised to disable most background stuff to help the music making process, then for a while I think that dropped off, not a lot of need to do it, but I think it more or less has come full circle again, having to disable stuff and software like antivirus (Avast in my case which I changed to Kaspersky) becoming more of a nuisance.

I turned of McAfee Realtime scanning but it didn't help.
To be sure, I also copied the script from the git hub website, but it still failed
