This is an important moment for music hardware manufacturers and MIDI. Dave Smith founded Sequential. His hardware synth was used to develop MIDI. The hardware was also used to demonstrate MIDI at the 1983 NAMM show. Sequential hardware was used again to demonstrate some properties of MIDI 2.0 at 2020 NAMM.
In my opinion this announcement is the beginning of Dave Smith's path to retirement.
