If you live here and fish in South Florida you will recognize this as a pretty large Yellowtail Snapper. They do get bigger but would be pretty rare around here.

The weather was perfect, actually, the first time I ever went to the Fort Jefferson area which is around seventy miles west of Key West out in the Gulf Of Mexico without having weather issues. Two nights on an open boat way offshore.

Limited out on Red Grouper and got fifteen of the Yellowtail in the last few hours of the trip. I thought we would come home empty-handed. It is just not in my nature to give up so I pressed on and finally found the fish.

I am paying a bit of a price in joint pain...lol

You guys should come to my house for lunch tomorrow!!

Ran my first trip as captain this year today. Half day wreck fishing 12 miles off the beach. Triggers and Sea Bass
Happy party. Good days work.

Yellowtail, Red and Mangrove snappers are all good eating.

Do you catch any snook that far from shore?
