Hi All,

After several months of battling COVID and Post-COVID, I am slowly starting to get back into life...

Here's a new simple folk-style song called Rexall '74.

She was standing ‘neath the awning
Of a long shuttered doorway
In the cold of the Hudson Valley
Like it was 1974
Outside the store
Waiting for some ghost to call
By the Rexall - by the Rexall

She was waiting for the next train
Headed north to Saratoga
The grey platform was empty
Like it had long lost the war
She found the door
Abandoned and left to fall
From the Rexall - from the Rexall

She was gone without a warning
A short blast of the whistle
In the light of a winter morning
Like it was 1974
A few minutes more
With her name on the wall
At the Rexall - at the Rexall

Hi Bob,

Good to see you back! We had Covid here too a while back, fortunately not the long version though.

Lovely melody and your signature vocal. Good song, only complaint was it was a bit short.

'74 was a big year for me BTW, it's when I got my first car wink

I had to google "Rexall" first to understand your lyrics smile

I like the song, nice laid-back mood and you have a good story.
I miss a chorus, I think the melody and chords at the end of the verses indicate that a chorus is coming soon...but no.

Floyd,

Thanks. I appreciate that. Also, thanks for the album cover compliment.

Bob, first and foremost I pray that you return to 100% very soon.
Second, being from New York State I got the Rexall and Saratoga references.
Everything about this one is top shelf.
Great instrumentation and outstanding lyrics.
I'm glad that your back and hope to hear more from you soon.

Nice work.
Solid band and interesting narrative.
"'neath" can be done well but in this context the rest of the narrative writing style doesn't chime with it so it sticks out as an oddity.
The parochial references are lost on me, though helped by the image, which means I've likely missed some of the magic.

Bob,
Glad you are getting better.
Good write, good track and clear mix. I had to Google Rexall too smile
Thank you for sharing.

Bob:

Great to have you back on the board with something new . . .. and glad you’re getting back in to the swing of things health-wise. I wish you the very best in that regard. The song is a rsdean classic . . . just a lovely write on this one, with some great lines throughout. A nice crystal clear touch on the mix . . . and an engaging vocal. What’s not to like here? Outstanding!

Hope all is well in your world,

Interesting lyric, which I liked and good melody going on.
Like B.D. I found myself crying out for a chorus just sliding into an A chord there.

I didn't know what Rexall meant either but I do now.
It's good that you survived that virus, ok.

Hi Bob .,..

Glad to hear you're on the road to getting better.

This song brought back some memories for me. In the early and mid 1960s, my uncle (mom's brother) was a supervisor for a large Rexall Drug Company distribution warehoouse in St. Louis, Missouri - my hometown. He took me along with him one Saturday morning when doing a quarterly inventory. That weas either in 1959 or 1960 - not sure which. There were Rexall Drug Stores all over the midwest.

Anyway, this is a wonderful song. We've missed that signature, and fabulous, Roberet Dean voice and compositions in your absence. It's a true delight to have you back! Loved everything about this song!

Take care and continue to mend.

Good band and vocals, was expecting a bridge or something to add dynamics.
A good listen, and I got the Rexall reference but can understand how others didn't.
Long covid is tough, be well.

Cool lyric Bob. We have a drug store change called Rexall. Super vocal and excellent mix. Well done

Good to have you back, Bob!

This song is classic Bob--intelligent lyrics with beautiful accompaniment and melody.

I remember Rexall drugstores. Are they still around?

Hi Bob, a very nice song you made!

I loved the clear, bright instruments and your vocals.
The story was nice and emotive, as with more of your songs. I love that!
I was expecting some kind of 'explosive' chorus, I don't know why, because you never do that.
But especially when the guitar gave that stroke I thought now it comes!
That doesn't say anything abourt the quality of your song, only of my expectations.

So, it's a very good song!
And I'm glad you survived every corona attack that came to you!
Horrible disease. Had it myself. Still feel very tired. Hope you are not!

We’ve missed you and hope you feel better and better.

What a lovely song for all of us on your return too. Your imagery in this is exceptional. Like this for instance:

“She was waiting for the next train
Headed north to Saratoga
The grey platform was empty
Like it had long lost the war”

We enjoyed the laid back trip to the past and felt like we were looking through old photographs.

Cool!

I really enjoy the nostalgic and melancholy images of the story and the interpretation with your fragile voice. I don't miss chorus, the song doesn't require a lift up. The use of the electric guitar fits the mood very well.
