This is another collab by John Vaughan and I.
I haven't got the voice for country but it'll describe the idea.
Vic
N.B. I changed the BIAB instruments so much that I haven't got a note of which ones I kept and which I changed apart from:

Drums - Nashville Radio Pop 8ths
Congas - Ev16(single)
Bass - Pop half notes
Guitar - Nylon background
Piano - acoustic rhythm

I don't blame the wine or music
I'd a choice, use or lose it
Now I'm pecking at my phone
in this bar I call my home
but as usual ... I'm alone.
V
Now a bottle holds three glasses
a hour or so soon passes
Another bar room romeo
A connoisseur of drinking solo
Hey bartender ... one more glass of Merlot!
Ch.
Wine, a woman and a country song
That combination rolls right off your tongue
That night seemed just the same
as the conversation waned
with a dream i'd had for oh so long
Wine, a woman and a country song
Inst.
V
As the juke box played some Haggard
I was woken, dazed and staggered
when a handsome woman walked through the door
and waved me onto the dance floor
Well I couldn't ask for more
V
Her friend had waved i'm out of here
been hours since she disappeared
Juke box used up our last dime
We'd danced 'til closing time
Me drunk on perfume, and her the wine?
Ch.
Wine, a woman and a country song
That combination rolls right off your tongue
That night It sure worked out right
We'd just met but but were dancing tight
A dream i'd had for oh so long
Wine, a woman and a country song
Outro
I still raise a glass that's true
now from a bottle shared by two
A dream i'd had for oh so long
Wine, a woman and a country song

Hey Vic, nice song. I especially like the chorus and ending. I think you've got a good voice for country, and also for western. The drums in this one gave me a feeling of Jimmy Buffet and the acoustic guitar, more of the feeling of El Paso. The overall production gave me a feel of contemplation, but I think the song would also work well with a more upbeat feel, particularly with that ending - maybe an electric or steel guitar? Just a thought, it's good as is.

Hi Vic,

Another good collaboration from you two. Love the lyrics! And your vocal sounds fine to me.

Is that you playing the solo on the acoustic? Nicely done.

Enjoyed!

Hi Brad.
Thanks for responding.
I did think of Margaritaville when I was recording it but I love Marty Robbins style too.
I did at first put in an electric guitar solo and a steel guitar background but to me it didn't sound right. Maybe future BIAB versions will have one that fits.
You're right about a more upbeat version. I may do one.

Nice collaboration between John and you.
My favorite part is the chorus with the harmonies. In my opinion the verses could do without the congas, but I like your song already as it is now
Good work by all involved.

Thanks, Dave.
No, not me playing. All BIAB.

Great collaboration gentlemen!
I got a Jimmy buffet vibe also.
Outstanding vocal and mix.
Loved those lyrics.

PS - I spend a lot of money on wine and woman, the rest I just wasted wink

B.D.
Thank you.
The congas were an after thought.
I cut them out in the verses now.

Vic.
Neat romantic tune. Airy progression. Solid lyrics. Well performed.
Good mix. That "after thought" on congas worked very well.
Thank you for sharing.

Vic (and John):

Great collaboration on a classic country tune. Nice write, good mix of instruments and all good production touches throughout . . . no nits or suggestions from me. Though it’s definitely a 70’s song, as I can’t remember the last time a juke box took a dime—sadly, I was around when it cost that little (sigh). Your voice carries this well enough for country Vic . . . who knew you had it in you, LOL! Well done!

My best to you both,

Deej

Nice write, good vocals, and a really nice arrangement.

I disagree about your assessment about your voice - this is a country song, and your voice is a great fit.

Felt a little TexMex a la Ry Cooder/Chicken Skin Music.
Those little acoustic licks really add the magic.
LOVE you supporting vocal.
"Me drunk on perfume, and her the wine"
Loved it.

I like the old jokes. The old ones are the best.

Very enjoyable.

I'm guessing that featured guitar is a Brent Mason RT:)

Hello Vic,

The combination of ingredients in your title was just enough to make me listen ;-)
Especially your choice of wine...

Very romantic song with nice lyrics. It made me feel like I was sitting by the fire staring at my half-full glass and thinking about my wife and the (country) song. I did nothing else. A very relaxed feeling. That's what your song does tpo me. The gonga's are fine, the vocals are good and the mood is relaxed.
A nice solo on the acoustic!

Good to see you back.
Thanks.

Thank you Deej.
Yes, I did wonder about the "dime" thing. But maybe it was the last dime along with 3 quarters and 3 nickels, or maybe it is going back to a time when that was possible.

Hahaha. This is quite funny, Vic, but I pushed the song link and listened before coming back to read what you wrote. The first thought I had was, "Man, this guy is perfect for this kind of country song." Actually laughed out loud when I read your words. I also do with BiaB what you describe, and really have to investigate what was actually used. Whatever you through away, you did an excellent job of trimming down the band. The lyrics are so well crafted, and this is my favorite:
"Wine, a woman and a country song
That combination rolls right off your tongue." And they surely did. Well received here.

I enjoyed the write. You sang this very well. You can surely sing country. A good feel throughout. Tom

I enjoyed this. It has a slight tropic feel to it mixed with some country mexicali. Country folk tend to drink whiskey or beer.... not wine, especially Merlot. But hey..... I know, artistic expression.

Good one.

Hi, Guitarhacker.
Thanks for the listen. I read somewhere that Californians drank the most wine. Maybe he was one of them or maybe he was just a strange one.
We will take the advice for the future though.

Vic,

You have a great sound... Love the song and your vocal.

The congas were an excellent touch.

Hi Vic,

Lovely song, although different from your other songs.

And about:
"I changed the BIAB instruments so much that I haven't got a note of which ones I kept and which I changed".

Haha, yes, it happens to me often. Sometimes I write down all the different instruments I use, but often I forget.

Hi Vic ...

You and John put a classic country tune together. Sounds reallky good! Excellent choice if backing tracks - and a wonderful lyric. Your vocal sounds just fine to me. Nice harmony, too, on the chorus.

Nicely done!

Hi Anne-Marie.
I think part of the enjoyment in putting a song together is finding the instruments yourself.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for your comments.

Country? We'd put it in that big tent ... Americana.
Nice rootsy vibe, fine lyric/melody/band/mix and your vocal is perfecto for it.

All meaning, well done!

A pleasant vocal.
The nylon guitar is a good choice.
(the combination of drums and congas is pretty busy and was more get-in-the-way than supportive -opinion).

Hi Floyd. Thanks.
I half agree with you. I wasn’t sure about the congas either but some others like them.

Darn good lyrics.

Vocal relays the emotion of the lyrics.

Love the band. A nice breezy feel.
