David and Rachel Radio 4.19: MORE WITH LESS_Duet

Here is a new song.

Rachel and I are singing a duet on a tune we spun up called “More with Less.”

Pretty self explanatory. Hope you like it!

MORE WITH LESS
By Rachel Cintula and David Snyder

V1

[male]

Fighting with that man in the mirror
I don't know who’s going to be the winner
The hallow eyed reflection that I see
Or the man I know you need me to be
Honestly
I don't know how you stayed this long
God only knows why you stood this strong
Yeah, stronger than the reflection I see
Even stronger than
The man I know that I should be

CH

[male]
Right now
This future of ours looks dim
But because you believe in him
You haven’t given up on us
And that kind of love is hard to express
With sins like mine that need to be confessed
But I believe that I can be a better man
Because God has done more with less
Yeah, he’s done more with less
More with less

V2

[female]

Loving that man in the mirror
Because he’s fighting to get his life together
I’m looking past the reflection I see
Praying I’ll find the man you used to be
Honestly
I ask myself why I stayed this long
And thank God I’ve been able to stand this strong
Yeah, stronger than the broken man I see
A little love and Jesus just might set him fee

CH

[alternating male and female]
Right now
Our future might look dim
[male]
But because I believe in him
I haven’t given up on us
[female]
And this kind of love is hard to express
[male]
But changes in time will show me you’ve confessed
And I know you can be a better man
[female]
Because God has done more with less
[male]
Yeah, he’s done more with less
[female]
More with less [male and female]

CH/Outro

[mixed]

Because God has done more with less
Yeah, he’s done more with less
More with less [male and female]

This is a good thing.
I'm confused by the use of "hallow" though.
Rachel's vocal is a little uneven in level...leaning in & back I suspect.
I like the song, the pace and the feel.
That tag could be a little tighter I suppose.
Nice one.
David / Rachel,

This is a great song! Love the arrangement and the way you approached the duet.

Excellent as usual! A fan!

Bob
Hi Rachel and David
A duet is always a cool thing
Don't know if I have heard one here in the forum yet
The song sounds pretty good
Maybe you both should have used the same vocal effects
But a good song by itself
Many greetings
Andi ;-)
David, you're a fabulous musician. Rachel, you write and sing beautifully - I hear so much more courage in your voice than at the beginning. The Sheryl Crow vibes are there - I still think you can believe even more in your own voice, because it really is all there. For what my own opinion may be worth, anyway, haha.

Great song, great lyrics. Well done, the both of you ... you're hitting it outta the park, you really are (is that the right expression? haha. You know what I mean!).

Hey thanks Ray! That is a good suggestion. Let me look at the tag again.

Have a good one mate!
Good country song - good write, put together nicely.

I agree with what the others wrote - putting both your vocals in the same space and riding Rachel's volume would help it sound a bit more cohesive.

Anyway, good song. Well done, you two.
Rachel and David produce another winner.
Cool approach to a duet.
Sounds great to me as is.
"Fighting with that man in the mirror
I don't know who’s going to be the winner
The hallow eyed reflection that I see
Or the man I know you need me to be"

What a great intro to a great write.

Nice vocals, mix and band.

Well done y'all!

David and Rachel:

This is a terrific write with some wonderful lines throughout . . . I really like the melody in the verses . . . though I'm a little less so in the chorus, which seems to bog down a little bit for me around the 5th and 6th lines—a subjective thing for sure. It’s just a work tape and you’ve gotten some great advice on the vocal mixes already. When you get down to a more complete recording synching up the harmonies a bit more will help take it to the next level as well.

You two are really cranking out some excellent stuff of late!

My best to you both,

Deej
If it was a question, David, I'll say MORE! Yeah, can't get enough of yours and Rachel's talents. Another fine example. It seems to my ears that there is more effect on your vocal than Rachel's, but that's mostly me trying pretend I'm good at this. What a good write and I like how you each take up your respective parts to sing about the same guy. Great message, too. Much enjoyed!
Thanks Mario!
Thanks Bob I really appreciate that!
Thanks Andi.

The vocals were done in different rooms with different mics and set ups.

I know how to fix it next time so you will never know.

smile
Thanks James!

I really appreciate that!
Thanks David!

Yeah there are lot of things I have figured out to do better or different next time to correct for different mics in different rooms and other things.

I have figured out a way to treat Rachel's vox now so it will sound like the same room and the same space and same mic.
David & Rachel ...

I concur with the previous comments about the differing vocal sounds, but you've already addressed how you'll approach that on the next production. Love the backing tracks ... crystal clear and the perfect selection of instruments.

Duets aren't easy to write and produce. But I don't see that as a problem here. The approach and execution are really nice. Very nice how you put it together with the differing POVs between the male and female perceptions of the same "image". I prefer this to a call and response that is more frequently used.

Nice song - nice presentation. Hats off for a really an excellent project.

Alan
David,
getting better with each tune. Duets are tricky. I agree with David C. Otherwise, glad for you finding a musical partner. Thank you for sharing.
Misha.
David, I really like this song. Like Floyd said, the George and Tammy of the forum. I hope you post the finished production. This is a good one.

Brad
Cool collaboration David and Rachel. Excellent country tune. Loved the backtrack as well.
Thank so much Janice and Bud.

Very sweet.

Can't wait to hear your new album!

Fine set of lyrics. Melody fits well with them. For my 2.5 cents, I would like to hear you two in harmony, especially toward the end. Just a thought.
David and Rachel,

Great collaboration on a tune that a lot of folks can relate to!
You are working up quite an extensive catalog of material! Lots of clever lines in here!

Thanks, TB
