KEEP SINGING YOUR SONG

I hit a dry spell recently when trying to develop new song ideas and I felt it would be a good time to go back and dust off an old one. I re-recorded several parts and re-mixed and mastered it! I am still needing to address the eq and compression on the lead vocal and especially the drums and will do so in time!
Those are secondary issues to me with this one though! The message of the song is by far the most important to me! Over the years I have seen many people come and go in this forum and it's a shame! Some have most likely become discouraged and maybe even given up on music making all together. Maybe someone reading this feels that way! My message is don't give up on making your music! No matter how professional sounding it is or not it will still serve a purpose! This forum is packed with talented song writers and performers who have all (with the exception of one or two) been supportive and encouraging to me (especially when I first showed up around here) People like Floyd, J&B and others made me feel so welcome and positive about making my music even when to me it didn't sound that good!
Every couple of years I try to update this song and post to try and motivate my fellow musicians here! These lyrics were written for you! Especially verse 2! Thanks for giving it another spin

Keep Singing Your Song
Words and music by Torrey Bliss

O you didn’t know but you touched somebody’s heart
Yet you wonder why and how you really played a part
Sometimes it’s hard to see just how you helped mend a soul
Your gift has worked in ways that you will never know

Keep singing your song let your story be told
If you keep it inside you’re only gonna grow old
You’ve got a light we all need
Don’t hesitate don’t make us wait
Keep singing your song

Often are the times that you want to lay it down
That no one will notice if you’re not around
Don’t you know that God put a gift inside of you
When you think about it you know what you’ve got to do

Keep singing your song let your story be told
If you keep it inside you’re only gonna grow old
You’ve got a light we all need
Don’t hesitate don’t make us wait
Keep singing your song

Someone is down oh they could use an uplifting word
You’ve got what they need
Hi Torrey,

I've not heard previous iterations of this one. But the encouragement of the lyric and the joy of the backing tracks serve the intended message perfectly. A strong and important message.

The only thing that stood out to me that might have earned another look is the higher EQ on the vocal could be dialed back a bit. Other than that, it sounded terrific to me. It's always good a little encouragement.

I agree with the members of this forum being supportive and helpful with very few exceptions. To whatever degree my musical creations might have some appeal to the listener, I owe much appreciation to the folks here, you included. At 76 years old, I still have a lot to learn about musical creation and presentation. But I can always count on the folks here to offer superlative suggestions.

Excellent song, Torrey. You set a great example.

Alan
Amen to this...
Torrey...thank you for this word of encouragement...we all need it from time to time...the last few years have been tough for me as my singing voice has falter quite a lot...most of my posts are older recordings but I have found great joy in "revamping" them with BiaB and have discovered in this forum a community that allows me to share them and their message without prejudice...having made friends and even collaborated with a few folks (including yourself) I feel like my songs are living again and accomplishing that which they were set out to do.

This song and your songs are an inspiration to me (and others as well!)...it is so Torrey...you have a style all your own and your songs are so recognizable...whatever genre (style) you choose for one of your songs, they are always top quality, produced exquisitely with craft and care and presented in a way that gets your (His) message across so well...I always look forward to hearing them and this is no exception...thank you Torrey...keep'em coming!
Encouraging song, with a message that is timely to me and, I suspect, many others. I'm often out of inspiration, so it's good to be reminded to "stick at it" smile You are a superb singer, and the songwriting is excellent, so thank you for sharing ... uplifting stuff.
Hi Torrey
Really good song
Great sound and very nice message
The drums fit the song very well
Great work Torrey
Many greetings
Andi ;-)
Torrey,
A very cool revamp.
This has some Roy Wood era ELO and a touch of the Willburys about it while being 100% BLISS.
The harmonies are super,
the playing is super,
the mix is excellent.
The message is SPOT ON.
Outstanding Torrey. That's not a statement --it's a moniker. You surely are outstanding in creating such wonderful music, Torrey, AND encouraging others to do the same. You most definitely sound like a product of Abbey Road Studio. The Beatles and ELO would be among the throng of listeners who would gather at the window of Studio 3 to see where this amazing sound is coming from. Man, I am so happy you give us this free pass. I appreciate you! You're right, too. Creating is the important thing. Being good at it isn't even secondary. Most of us do it because we can't stop. It's not a sickness, it's a wellness.
Torrey,

Love the song and love the message.

Great, great performance and it's such a cool idea to continually update this song - quite the evolution!

Excellent!

Bob
I think the compression on the vocals is okay, the highs are a bit too strong and make them sound thin compared to your normal vocals.

But, to be honest, I don't care, because:

Thank you, Torrey, for this song. And the same goes for you: keep singing your song!
Torrey,

In my opinion this may be the best song you have ever written, except for your true masterpiece, Big Paper Bible.

I seem to remember you may have written that with either Paul McCartney or someone even greater.

But anyway, this is outstanding!!

smile
A big thanks to Alan, Musicstudent, Dan, James, Andi, Ray, Marty, Bob BD Thomas, and David (you are right about that co-writer, he is awesome) for taking time out of your day to give this tune a listen and comment! I appreciate the kind words and I will be making some adjustments here and there on the song! TB
Torrey,

A great message.
Killer opening. That and the first verse could have easily been a G. Harrison cut...
Vocal and harmonies sound good.
Nice guitar work. Bass is ace.
I am hearing a sort of "pumping" (the track as a whole) as I listen - though I don't have a clue what is causing that impression. (might just be my setup).
I've always said you do the most "musical" music on the forums. This proves that again...

Howdy Torrey....

Message received....loud and clear.
A good song, sincerely delivered and hopefully "uplifting" to the listeners to get the message.
A creative write and I enjoyed the listen.

To this day, I still agonize over whether I should upload a new one or not.
Always questioning myself...."is it worthy for my peers ears?".
Song writing it is a very personal endeavor and maintaining our creative courage can be quite a hurdle to overcome.

Well done amigo!
Torrey,
Sorry I am late for the party.
I am sincerely glad you are working and setting bar higher with every tune! You are one of the top musicians on the forum, and inspiration if not for all, but likely to most of us. Great tune, great message and VERY well done. Thank you for being here and sharing your talent with us.

Misha.
Great song! Uplifting lyrics, excellent production, vocals, guitar tones, and use of Real Tracks.
Very George Harrison / Beatles in the best ways.

Nice job!

Thanks Floyd, that pumping sound may be from compression applied to some of the leftover tracks from the previous version!

Torrey,

I’m in a funk where I keep wondering why I keep bothering . . . a really good time to here a tune like this and perhaps remind me of why I do. Sure, there are probably some opportunities to refine the mix here (and I think it’s worth pursuing further . . . it’s that good a song) . . . but the message is what works here for me . . . just a catchy, positive tune. Excellent!

All my best to you,

Deej
I also liked the song, it relaxes and inspires to new things!
Well, we loved it several years ago and we still love it, Torrey.

We are big believers in the power of music for our hearts, minds and souls. BiaB brought us back to making music again and, like you, this forum for us has been a place of encouragement and support. We’ve also made lasting friendships with people whom we would’ve never known otherwise.

The update still has that joyous feel of the Wilburys and your performances are stellar.

We are so glad that you keep singing your songs for us to enjoy!

And thanks for mentioning us smile It was our pleasure.

J&B
