A co-write with Danny Mayo
Pure Country (forewarned). Pure '90's Country, actually...
Well pitched by the publishers - for about 3 weeks...until a new crop of songs arrived.
Excitement seldom lasted long with thousands of new choices out every week.

I asked Janice to join me. A no-brainer.

BETWEEN OUR TWO BROKEN HEARTS

mind if i park myself here
on this empty stool
do you come here often
it's my first time, too
i thought that the neon might help me be on the mend
but i was wrong
the tear in your eye says that you might know
how it feels to lose someone

   between our two broken hearts
i'll bet we've done some stumbling in the dark
   ain't it lonely alone
   trying hard not to long
for the one that's left your arms
   i don't know about you
but i feel like a fool
having been such an easy mark
but let's just keep this between
   our two broken hearts

let's move to that corner booth
where no one can hear
they don't need to know we're alone
and seen love disappear
now isn't this better, they think we're together
thanks for holding my hand
ain't it funny this night has turned out all right
sure, i'd love to share a dance

   between our two broken hearts....

Break my heart if you must, but comment anyway...

smile

Floyd & Janice,

Great country music with exquisite vocals...

Beautifully written and recorded. This absolutely has HIT potential - no question. It should be on the radio today!

Love everything about this!

Bob
As THE proven showcase-forum-country-expert (cough, cough), especially when it comes to 'Pure 90s Country', I can tell you why this song didn't chart: Janice was missing.

Beautiful in every regard. I love the lyrics, I love the way you 2 sing together, and production-wise no one would guess it was done with BIAB.
Perfect!
Floyd and Janice...what a classic country song...the duo was so good...man I can imagine George and Tammy, Conway and Loretta or even Kenny and Dolly doing this back then...Floyd, this is a great country love song for sure and Danny Mayo was a gifted writer...I'll bet it was fun writing with him....again super song delivered so well!
Tears. Floyd, your voice (I will say it) is timeless. Janice: what incredible harmonies. The song? TOP, TOP, TOP, TOP notch. But when Floyd decides to tell a story, no-one holds a candle to that storytelling ability of his. I don't often have tears in my eyes, but there we are. Hats off, to every single one of you who were involved with this production. Wow. Congratulations.
Pure country indeed...but not the sort I railed against as a youngster.
Nothing formulaic or insincere about this one.
Two excellent voices entwined in melody.
Hi Floyd & Janice,

Good work you two - a good song and very well sung.

Best Regards
Nigel
Three things-

1-This was FANTASTIC. I think I would rather have a conversation than type out all that I like with this song. I think what's hard at times is I want to mention all of the things I hear so you realize we do hear that stuff!

2-I got an earful because of your song! My dad happened to be in when I was listening to it. I was going to turn it off when he walked in so we could talk and he said "don't turn that off! You finally have some REAL music you're playing. He listened to the whole thing and loved it! He asked who it was, and I told him it was Florida Georgia Line. I probably should correct him before he has too many conversations with my relatives about how he likes this Florida Georgia Line. laugh

3-This HAS to be written on piano? Even if it wasn't the piano made this song even better! The perfect way to heighten a gorgeous song. That's a GREAT sounding piano btw!

4 of 3-Sorry I can't NOT mention Janice. But then again he talent is so obvious do I need to. Again, you two(three) work so well together. Between her vocal and Bud's knowing how to process to what you need, it's all there.

Thanks for sharing this one. Many listens will continue with this one!
How can I write about the smile on my face? You two bring it there and keep it there. Hell, this will last much longer than 3 weeks. Sorry for smiling through your two broken hearts, so I had to listen again with more empathy. Nope. Still smiling.

Here's some of the things I say for every Floyd Jane song: Love those lyrics, man. No one says it better. Great write. If music moguls cared more about good music rather than what they sell, this would be on every radio. Like C.Aaron (Chad) said about his dad "REAL music." Vocals are outstanding, and Janice is such an intelligent choice. What a wonderful blend. The mix was obviously done by a professional.

Thanks for being here, Floyd.
Excellent song/mix/master. As usual!

Gosh, you two, your voices blend so well!!

Like the piano too:)

I'm not familiar with Danny Mayo, though I recognize some of the songs he wrote. His death must have been a terrible shock. So sorry, Floyd.

Always love hearing that, Bob... Thanks!!
FJ, Danny & Janice
Excellent country tune all around. In every genre there is always right, left, up, down. This seems to be right at the heart. I don't know Country music well, but that is how it sounds to untrained ear. Solid set of lyrics and excellent vocals by you and Janice. Mix is spotless. Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

P.S. "Break my heart if you must, but comment anyway..." LOL
Fine, here is my amateur critical comment. Because of similar "crying" feel I would choose only one, either Pedal steel or fiddle.
Bob, B.D. and Firesong

Thank you so much! I always love singing with floyd and have learned so much from him over the past ten years. I joke with my brother that floyd is my other brother. smile

Thanks, Dan.
Danny and I wrote quite a bit together. Interestingly, Danny did not play ANY instruments. And he could BARELY carry a tune. He'd just sit there with a yellow pad. Writing furiously. When he did have a melody idea (to go with a particular phrase), he would "sing" it to me to work out the chords. A real sweetheart of a guy - heart of gold...
Hi Janice, Floyd and Danny
A very nice song
Extremely well sung by you two
But also all instruments sound great
Excellent mix
Great work from all
Many greetings
Andi ;-)
floyd

A very country sounding country song. Great performance by you and of course Janice who blends with you seamlessly.

Excellent work and a great pro write.

Very nice of you to say, James... much appreciated...

Excellent old school Floyd!

Really love the nostalgic vibe on this!

Floyd,

It's a disgrace when top level work like this slips through the cracks! This is chart topping country if I've ever heard it! Somebody making decisions in Nashville really dropped the ball on this!
What a great vocal performance by both of you! Enjoyed it all the way!

Thanks, TB
A MASTERPIECE!!!!!! This SHOULD be a hit, heard by MILLIONS!!!! One of your best vocals Floyd, and the harmonies are gorgeous!!!! LOOOOOOOVE IT!!! Take care. Greg
Musician17, Ray and Nigel

Thank you so much.

I’m happy you liked my small part in this big production!

Janice and Floyd, this is pure country, which is a genre that I like a lot, and you more than did it justice.

Super vocals, lyrics, and mix.

Loved it.

Nope. Written on guitar. (the piano is the Grand from EZKeys)

Floyd and Janice ...

I'll make this short and to the point. If someone asked me to define country music of the 80s and 90s, I'd simply give them the URL to this song. What else needs to be said? Basically, nothing.

HeartoLearn

Chad, I love what your Dad said about this song being “real” music and I agree. smile I always love singing with floyd and truly appreciate your comments about my singing and mine and Bud’s teamwork.

Babu

Thanks so much Marty. And Bud and I are sure thankful that floyd is here too!

Olemon,

Thanks Scott! We agreed years ago that floyd and I are musical siblings. wink

Janice
I love it all! smile

It's got that classic country music sound.

You and Danny really wrote some good stories. It's got a conversational tone, tells the story while feeling natural, and has a "feel good" ending. My favorite line:

now isn't this better, they think we're together

And of course, excellent heartfelt singing. Janice perfect here - as you said, a no brainer.

I like the way you snuck the drum in one bit at a time. Great arrangement.

As I said - I love it all.
Pro level song Floyd. Awesome vocal and Janice's harmonies were perfect. Excellent lyric and backtrack. One of my favorites
Misha, Andi, Peter and Torrey,
Thank you for appreciating my harmony with floyd. Like y’all, I thought floyd and Danny should’ve had a hit with this one. Of course, I think that about every one of floyd’s songs! wink

Janice
Greg, Mario, Al-David, DCuny and Scott,

Thank you for the listens and mentions of my harmony. Singing with floyd is such a joy for me and I agree with y’all about his capturing the “classic country” sound. I’m hoping for many more years of our sibling harmony. smile

Thanks, Scott.
Danny's death WAS a shock. It happened on his birthday. A bunch of us had gathered at the main writer's night to sing songs that we had written with Danny. Danny had booked a room at the hotel next door. That was a bad night...

(It's a long standing tradition for Country to have a steel and a fiddle trading tears...)
It's all been said above. This is classic top shelf Floyd and Janice vocal work, great, sad love lyrics and superb band.
Pro all the way.
Fantastic song, Floyd! Everything about this is top-notch: the lyrics, vocals, use of the hook, and style. Excellent collaboration!
I second that emotion as they say! Hit potential and great vocals, Floyd and Janice!
Now that's a slow dancing, beer nursing song. Your voice is in top form here. Janice's harmony lifts an already good chorus to a new level.
Great song and superb vocals Floyd & Janice - fabulous production too!!
Super job and very well done!

Best regards, Carl

Bass Thumper, Dewey, Ezekiel’s Storm and Camog,

Thank you for mentioning my harmony with floyd and I’m glad you enjoyed the song. It was a delight for me to be a part of this production. smile

Janice Merritt...

YOU. ARE. THE. BEST!!!!

smile smile smile wink
Definitely pure country. Nice touching story by telling only about the current moment, not what had happened or what happened later. The music supports the melancholy, fiddles and piano work well. Good emotional vocals and harmonies.

Janne
Pure country is fine by me, Floyd. And this is a mighty fine example. Much enjoyed, as always.

Leon
