A goofy song written near the end of the pandemic. I had been cooped up too long.....
https://fredgrittner.bandcamp.com/track/watching-the-world-go-byHarmony vocal: Dale Jernberg
Watching the World Go By
Mama done told me
I missed the boat
Wore off the numbers
On the tv remote
Hunger and anger
Battlefield scenes
Now and then unusual
Homecoming queens
CHORUS:
Watching the World Go By
Watching the World Go By
After the laughter
I’ll have a good cry
Watching the World Go By
Ain’t superstitious
Don’t like cottage cheese
Finally found out
Bad things come in threes
My baby deserted
Boxed up the blame
Put it on display
At the Fools Hall of Fame
CHORUS
Crossed all my t’s
Dotted my i’s
What did that get me?
A bad case of hives
Hate to see changes
No matter how small
Lying on the floor
Leaves no place to fall
CHORUS

Hi Fred,
I'm always happy to see a new one from you. As I've said several times before - I really enjoy your vocals and lyrics. And here's another one to justify that statement. Lyrics are appropriate for the time and your vocal is smoother than warm butter.
I wasn't overly fond of the guitar lead - I think an acoustic lead would have fitted better. But, just my opinion, FWIW. I did like the mandolin, though.
Another terrific song from on of my favorite singers.
Take care,
Alan
PS: Dale did a nice job on the harmony.
Fred, this is the best song about the pandemic that I have ever heard. I think we all were watching the world go by.
The backing band was spot on.
Your vocals and Dale's harmonies are perfect.
Super groove.
Great mix.
Loved it.
Beautiful song, 10 out of 10, plus that instrumental break is perfect.
Hi, Fred.
Fun lyric. Nice vocal. Loved the mandolin.
I like it!
Fred, super cool tune! Loved the weary edge in the vocals and the solo. Super mix, too. Just perfect all the way around. A lot about the pandemic is forgettable, this song it not. THANKS for posting!
Simple but effective arrangement, and I really like your lyrics.
This is the good stuff!

Fred...a very clever write...super track...all of the solo stuff is top-notch....lyrically funny but true...I loved the melody and harmonies...a very easy listen!
Cool song, I really enjoy the lyrics, make a great open mic sing along. Good Real Track backing track and mix, like the lead. NICE!!!

Thanks, Mario! Glad I mad the lyrics a little more upbeat and goody after the first few drafts. That was a crazy time.

Thanks, Elliott. Yes, the chorus is very singable.
Fred
Good one, Fred. Love the gentle humor in the lyrics and that catchy chorus.
Good song and voice Fred, good balanced mix - maybe a tiny bit more 'sparkle' on the mandolin but I liked how you kept it 'mellow'!
Well done,
Carl
Love it, Fred --right fdrom the part where you say were cooped up too long. Ha. What a cool song you got out of it though. YUou make it so inviting to watch the world go by. Catchy lyric and melody. I really enjoyed the mondo solo. Excellent vocal and harmonies. Much fun.
This sounds like an undiscovered John Prine song and what a delight that is!
“After the laughter
I’ll have a good cry
Watching the World Go By”
We have had those same feelings during the last few years and your song addresses the issue in a very upbeat manner.
As always your vocal is excellent, the BiaB components shine and the mix sets up a fine soundstage.
Dale’s harmony is spot on too.
Enjoyed it!

PS Are all the tracks BiaB? Nice work with them.
Hey Fred, great pandemic song. Liked the mix a lot, and I liked that first line, "Mama done told me I missed the boat Wore off the numbers On the tv remote". It grabbed me right at the start and made me want to hear more!
Brad

Thanks, Yes, it was all BiaB tracks. I channeled Mr. Prine after having a Handsome Johnny or three! You got it.
Nicely done Fred.
The solo maybe a tad long. Maybe not.
